  • The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting applications for a Public Water Supply Compliance Specialist (Water Supply Specialist Entry or Senior).

    This position may be headquartered in either Milwaukee, Waukesha, or Plymouth. Please select all locations you may be interested in working in.

    Remote work will be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period. The exact amount is based on program need.

    Position Summary

  • This position functions as a Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) compliance and enforcement specialist. This position ensures regulatory and policy compliance is consistent with program\-wide goals and objectives. This position establishes guidance, monitors, evaluates, and ensures implementation of public drinking water compliance policies by coordinating with other regional program staff, central office staff, other staff experts, and the supervisor. This position provides compliance review of highly complex reports and applications and monitors statewide implementation of the Drinking Water System. This position provides guidance to other department staff to investigate and enforce violations of reporting and sampling requirements. This position requires continual contacts with customers that are business representatives, labs, a variety of government agencies and entities, and the public regarding public water supply issues. This position is responsible for primary enforcement activities to ensure the safety of public health.

    Salary Information

  • Starting pay for this position for the Entry level is between $30\.00 to $35\.00 per hour ($62,400\.00 to $72,800\.00 annually). The Water Supply Specialist Entry classification is included in Pay Schedule/Range 15/04\.

    Starting pay for this position for the Senior level is between $32\.00 to $37\.00 per hour ($66,560\.00 to $76,960\.00 annually). The Water Supply Specialist Senior classification is included in Pay Schedule/Range 15/03\.

    This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

  • Travel: This position will require occasional regional travel.

    Required qualifications include ALL the following criteria:

    Education and/or experience in a science\-related field (such as geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, biology, microbiology, public health, conservation environmental science, natural resources, freshwater science, or similar field).

    Education or experience in the management and coordination of large datasets including the use of spreadsheets and databases (such as excel, oracle or similar).

    Working and/or volunteering in a science\-related organization (i.e., non\-profit organization, nature center, academic institution, consulting firm, etc.) or with any science related local, state or federal government organizations

    Preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

    Experience interpreting, administering, and/or enforcing local, state, and/or federal regulations.

    Experience communicating complex technical topics to a variety of audiences, including technical writing, verbal communication, and visual materials.

    Experience analyzing sampling data, interpreting results, determining regulatory compliance, and/or advising on water contamination issues.

    Experience collaborating with wide range of stakeholders and partners, such as the general public, businesses, contractors, consultants, well drillers/pump installers, certified operators, laboratories, and government agencies.
