$41\.22 – $61\.54 Per hour, exempt, payable bi\-weekly. The salary scale for this position is between steps 0 and 19, depending on experience. Job Summary
The Addiction Medicine Nurse position holds a dual role within a multidisciplinary health care team, supporting clinic goals related to high\-quality patient care and overall patient satisfaction. In this role, the nurse provides direct clinical support to patients while also collaborating closely with providers, behavioral health specialists, and support staff to ensure coordinated, compassionate, and evidence\-based care. The Addiction Medicine Nurse plays a key role in patient education, care coordination, monitoring treatment progress, and promoting a safe and supportive clinical environment. Through both clinical and team\-based responsibilities, this position helps advance positive patient outcomes and supports the clinic’s mission of delivering comprehensive addiction treatment services.
The person hired for this position will spend about half of their time at our Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center and the other half at our STEP Clinic.
Job Responsibilities
- Medication starts, restarts and follow ups, many as nurse to provider conversion where RN is responsible for majority of charting and appointment
- Facilitate and document urine drug screens, pregnancy screens, prescription monitoring program (PMP) reports, DSM5 Opioid Use Disorder criteria, substance use history, mental health screenings, primary care health concerns, hepatitis and HIV testing status
- Patient education, including medication options and instructions, dosing and side effects, safer use strategies and opioid overdose/naloxone
- Provide intramuscular naltrexone and subcutaneous buprenorphine injections
- Conduct triage/assessment for acute and chronic health issues and connect to primary care provider as appropriate
- Return calls from new patients who are inquiring about our program, discuss program structure, explain our intake process, and schedule intakes
- Return calls related to missed appointments, scheduling/rescheduling, coordinate bridge scripts, and schedule follow up appointments
- Call patients after intake to check in on home induction, answer questions, address concerns, remind about follow up appt.
- Assist patients with the medication questions/issues, including home medication start/restart instructions, side effects and dosing
- Referrals to peer support/community health workers, behavioral health assessments/counseling and medication\-friendly support groups
- Coordinate care with external services: detox, inpatient treatment, hospitals, behavioral health agencies, jails, etc.
- Outreach to patients who have missed appointments/overdue for a refill to invite them back to clinic and schedule follow up appt.
- Support pharmacy with prescription prior authorizations as needed
- Trainings pertinent to Addiction/Substance Use Disorders
- Monthly Addiction Medicine Program meetings
- Quarterly Recovery Helpline/King County MOUD provider meetings
- Train staff and present on best practices to nurses and medical providers
- Precept for students/interns/residents/fellow’s
- Treats patients and staff in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the clinic
- In addition to the core AMP Registered Nurse duties performed at both Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center (CDFMC) and STEP Clinic, this role includes administrative RN responsibilities specific to STEP Clinic. Ongoing monthly tasks include ordering and inventory management for medications and clinic supplies, as well as ordering, tracking, and reporting for grant\-funded medications. Infrequent responsibilities include coordinating laboratory sample pickups and supporting patient registration, scheduling, and check\-in within the electronic medical record.

- 2 years clinic nursing and addiction medicine experience preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Experience providing care to medically underserved populations
- Case management experience helpful
- Washington State RN License required
- Must be fully vaccinated for Covid\-19
- Interest in Addiction Medicine/Substance Use Disorders
- Comfort with harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and trauma\-informed philosophies of patient\-centered care
