Our firm focuses exclusively on reproductive rights in pregnancy and childbirth. We bring lawsuits against hospitals and medical providers for medical malpractice and informed consent violations, and we defend midwives and doulas and advocate for access to their services. We are seeking a motivated Paralegal Assistant or Legal Assistant to support our mission and help us continue to grow our team and expand our practice.
Job Summary:
You will work in close collaboration with our lead attorney, by managing case files, communicating with clients and other professionals, and helping to grow our firm. This position is ideal for candidates who want to do work that makes a difference, who care about women’s rights, and who want to be part of a team that takes care of each other. The ideal candidate is highly organized, an excellent communicator, detail oriented, and can manage complexity and the pressure of litigation.
Part Time/ Flexible Schedule: 25\-35 hours/ week to start. Hours are negotiable. Possibility to grow this position to full time with benefits.
Compensation: $30\-35\+/hr starting salary based on experience
Your Role:
\- Full involvement in case from intake to resolution
\- Preparation and filing of court documents
\- Format and finalize documents from drafts
\- Organization and manage complex case files, medical records, and discovery
\- Master and manage online practice management and billing platform for law practice
\- Docketing, calendaring, and scheduling
\- Manage post office mailings and other administrative tasks
\- Manage client invoicing and billing
\- Manage website and social media
Qualifications:
\- 5\+ years of experience as a litigation legal assistant
\- Knowledge of court rules, procedures, and deadlines
\- Strong written and verbal communication skills, personable with clients, courts, and other professionals
\- Ability to draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents and correspondence
\- Ability to make and respond to requests for production and other discovery requests
\- Expertise in reviewing and working with medical records
\- Proficiency or willingness to rapidly become proficient with Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Adobe, Dropbox, and practice management platforms like Clio
\- Detail oriented, with excellent time management, computer and organizational skills
\- Self\-disciplined, self\-motivated, personally responsible around meeting deadlines and making progress on tasks
\- A proactive, open communicator willing to express your needs and concerns, as well as to learn from feedback and experience.
