- Provides assistance to customers on the phone and in person; answers questions and responds to their concerns.
- Processes and collects fees for motor vehicle titles, registrations, renewals, duplicate/replacement titles, junking certificates, replacement plates, and associated motor vehicle transactions while reviewing transactions for fraud or suspicious activity; provides documentation to the Iowa Department of Transportation for further investigation.
- Processes and collects fees for property taxes, tax sale certificates, and special assessments and researches and verifies Treasurer Certificates.
- Processes and collects fees for mobile home property taxes and title transfers, including junking certificates.
- Identifies and addresses any lien notations on motor vehicles or specific property; notes or releases any restrictions.
- Acts as cashier and handles transactions over the counter or by mail; processes transactions into computer database; maintains and balance cash drawers; tallies and balances transactions on a daily basis.
- Validates, executes, and appropriately records legal documents such as power of attorney forms, probate letters, odometer statements, and reassignments from other states.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the Code of Iowa and administrative rules pertaining to property tax and motor vehicles.
- Knowledge of the Iowa County Treasurers’ Manual.
- Knowledge of other states’ motor vehicle titling and registration rules and regulations, especially Iowa’s neighboring states.
- Knowledge of property tax collection policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle transactions and appropriate policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Skill in the use of computers and job\-related software programs.
- Skill in the execution of simple accounting principles and cash balancing.

- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

This position performs related clerical and customer service duties in the collection and distribution of funds from motor vehicle and property tax transactions. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Motor Vehicle – Property Tax Clerk”.
