Duties Description The Nursing Home Activity Assistant 1 Creates and modifies activities and programs based on residents’ interests, mental and physical needs to optimize enjoyment. The Nursing Home Activity Assistant 1 arranges for a mix of activities, including those provided through outside vendors, community involvement, staff delivery, and off\-site activities, such as ball games and country rides. They are responsible for setting up and cleaning up activity rooms for scheduled programs.The Nursing Home Activity Assistant 1 also coordinates activities and programs with other departments and residents’ schedules; arranges for refreshments and transportation as needed. In addition, the Nursing Home Activity Assistant 1observes resident attendance and degree of involvement, documents progress notes as required, and completes the Minimum Data Set (MDS) as well as encourages residents to participate in the various activities and programs offered.

Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: 12 semester credit hours\\ in therapeutic recreation, arts, crafts, dance, drama, or physical education and one year of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting;ORA high school or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting; ORFour years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting.\\You must submit a list of qualifying courses with your application. You must indicate the course name, the number of semester credit hours for each course, the name of the school, and the date when the credits were earned.\\\*Direct client care experience includes, but is not limited to, attending to patients' personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living needs.
