    Duties

  • The WG\-10 electrician is responsible for planning and laying out the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems, circuits, controls, and equipment. Major duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Incumbent is responsible for maintaining, repairing, altering, improving electrical services. Incumbent is also responsible for installing new equipment and circuits as required to ensure proper operating condition of the entire primary and secondary electrical services.
  • Incumbent performs preventative maintenance on all primary and secondary electrical systems on station and in some cases at satellite locations. This includes voltages from low to 4160, all substations, including load centers, transformers, switching, etc.
  • Incumbent is responsible for maintaining the fire alarm and outdoor lighting systems, emergency and non\-emergency backup power systems. Incumbent will regularly participate in generator runs, scheduled and unscheduled power outages.
  • Incumbent works from blue prints, diagrams, schematics, sketches, oral instruction and/or experience on all aspects of the job. Incumbent shall be proficient in understanding other building systems throughout the facility. Incumbent will ensure circuits and components are properly labeled. Incumbent will provide feedback to project managers and contracting officers regarding deficiencies and improvements to ongoing and upcoming designs and construction and repair projects.
  • Incumbent will generate statements of work, schedules, bill of materials, sketches, cost estimates, conduct market research, and perform all required administrative documentation for a wide variety of construction and repair projects for contract(s).
  • Incumbent will identify operational risks and performance improvement opportunities associated with shutdowns and other decisions related to the operational and maintenance of the building systems on campus and at satellite locations.
  • Incumbent will work alone, and with others. Incumbent is expected to work within a team of varied trades and professionals with VA personnel and contractors to include, but not limited to, pipefitters, AC mechanics, maintenance mechanics and workers, boiler plant operators and mechanics, carpenters, masons, dry wallers, painters, Computer and Phone technology personnel, secretaries, budget clerks, engineers, interior designers, safety and emergency management specialists, industrial hygienists. Incumbent will provide impeccable service to these customers.
  • Incumbent shall have a thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code, OSHA and EPA regulation and other government and VA directives, policies, and handbooks. Incumbent shall have a feel for NFPA as it affects electrical work. This knowledge shall be maintained and kept up to date.
  • Incumbent is responsible for inventorying supplies and ordering restock, identifying new and cull items in the inventory, tracking orders with the vendor and within the VA procurement system, maintaining and tracking tools and safety equipment/personal protective equipment (PPE) and identifying those tools and equipment that need replacement for wear, expiration, and end of life cycle anticipating those needs in advance.
  • Incumbent shall help review and generate job hazard analysis, lockout\-tagout procedures, PPE, and safety procedures, policies, center memorandums (operational and safety oriented).
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Physical Requirements: Work required of incumbent necessitates standing for long periods of time, being able to use hand and power tools for days on end, bending, crawling, climbing, and working in awkward positions for long periods of time. Incumbent may be required to work in tight, isolated spaces, and spaces not designed for human occupancy. Incumbent will regularly lift and move loads in excess of 40 pounds.

    EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Preferred Experience: Journeyman electrician license preferred or work history demonstrating knowledge and skills of a licensed electrician.

    Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35\-40 hours of work per week. Part\-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
