The California
Office of Data and Innovation (ODI) is seeking to hire a student assistant under the direction of the Head of Talent and People Services (Manager I). The student assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the Talent team. The
student assistant will
assist with the high\-volume, routine tasks that support recruitment, timekeeping, telework tracking, and employee engagement activities.
The
student assistant will
work closely with Talent Specialists and Supervisors to reduce administrative workload, improve efficiency, and ensure continuity of HR operations. The
student assistant will
maintain confidentiality and exercises discretion when handling sensitive information and will support the team in maintaining organized records, standardized processes, and consistent communication across the department.
This position is scheduled to begin in May 2026 and conclude in July 2026\. This position has the potential for extension based on departmental need.

This i
s a part\-time, temporary, non\-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six\-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four\-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Work Schedule
Approximately 8\-12 hours a week between Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined in coordination with the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation
$17\.00 to $22\.00 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
- Detail\-oriented, focused on accuracy, and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to plan, organize, take initiative, and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, experience with Mac, Google Suite and Slack appreciated, but not required.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability and responsibility.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

- Interest in human resources, recruitment, and operational support functions.
- Assists in preparing and tracking Requests for Personnel Action (RPA) packages to support timely processing.
- Supports the organization and maintenance of hiring documentation, including duty statements and supporting materials.
- Coordinates scheduling for meetings, including sending calendar invitations via Google Calendar.
- Maintains tracking logs for recruitment actions and updates status reports for Talent team members utilizing Google Sheets.
- Assists with reviewing documents for completeness prior to submission to Talent Specialists.
- Supports general recruitment administrative tasks, including candidate communication and document organization.
- Sends routine reminders to staff and supervisors regarding Tempo timesheet submission deadlines.
- Assists in tracking timesheet completion and identifying missing or late submissions.
- Supports basic review of timekeeping entries for completeness and flags discrepancies to Talent staff.
- Maintains organized records related to timekeeping.
- Assists with generating simple reports related to timekeeping and administrative tracking.
- Assists with tracking and organizing telework agreements and related documentation.
- Supports preparation of telework reports and identifies missing or outdated agreements.
- Coordinates logistics for wellness activities, team huddles, and employee engagement events.
- Assists in distributing communications related to wellness programs and employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintains tracking tools for participation in wellness and engagement activities.
- Provides support across all areas of human resources operations to ensure effective and timely service delivery.
- Assists with organizing and maintaining personnel files and administrative records.
- Supports special projects related to HR operations, recruitment, and employee programs.
- Performs general administrative duties such as data entry, document formatting, and file management.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
- Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
This opportunity is ideally suited for advanced undergraduate students (entering their senior year), Master’s\-level students, or those in the early phases of a doctoral program.
