SUMMARY:

This position is primarily building\-based at Mulready School. In addition to other assigned duties, this position will: Provide flexible coverage and support to students across classrooms and settings throughout the school day based on student and program needs. Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to ABA staff to ensure consistent implementation of behavior plans and instructional strategies. Coordinate and facilitate training for ABA staff and Child Development staff. Monitor the implementation of behavior and instructional supports and provide feedback to staff to promote effective practice. Organize and provide professional development for Child Development staff. Collaborate with other BCBAs to plan and implement the district’s Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) practices. Serve as a resource and point of contact for staff regarding behavioral supports, student programming, and intervention strategies

The BCBA would provide a full range of behavioral support services and consultations, following established protocols and the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and by the school based Team. The BCBA would assist in the identification and diagnosis of students who have a disease, disorder, impairment, activity limitation, or participation restriction which interferes with their ability to function independently in daily life roles. The BCBA would also provide a treatment plan and monitor it to promote wellness, physical and mental development, visual and perceptual skills, reasoning and cognitive skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:

The BCBA shall:

  • Plan and conduct screening, initial evaluations, and Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) of students by means of observation and professionally accepted assessments to determine the level of ability and disability relative to the need for behavioral support and inform parents and appropriate staff of the need for intervention(s).
  • Participate when requested on the Individual Support Team (IST) in the identification and placement of students in need of specialized services.
  • Plan and monitor intervention programs of therapy following established behavioral therapy protocols in accordance with the student’s IEP that will develop improve, sustain, or restore skills in academic, daily living, school, and leisure activities.
  • Observe students in the school setting and advise the IST and instructional personnel when the need to make adjustments in the instructional and/or intervention program is needed.
  • Keep the professional staff, health care providers, and parents informed with intervention objectives and student progress. Provide instruction so that parents and others reinforce and assist with the intervention plan.
  • Maintain and ensure an accurate student data record system. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  • Complete and submit in a timely fashion all intervention plans and reports as required by statute, regulation, policy, or as requested.
  • Work with community agencies and resource persons to provide a comprehensive and coordinated school behavioral intervention program.
  • Visit student homes to assess family needs related to a child’s functioning independently, or upon request of the principal or supervisor. Consult with the 1ST, Resource Officer, and other school personnel regarding the health of a child and the home situation, recognizing that the total family health and home status is important to the welfare of the child.
  • Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.
  • Understand and communicate current developments in the behavioral intervention field through reading of professional journals, participation in professional development, leading professional development workshops, and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Recommend policies and procedures that promote a healthy school environment and a clean, safe facility. Identify and communicate to the principal any unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • Maintain in safe working condition and operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.
  • Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the principal or supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    The Board Certified Behavioral Analysis shall:

  • Hold appropriate certification as a BCBA with an appropriate course of studies.
  • Show evidence of successful behavioral therapy experience and experience working with children and adolescents, in a school setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, wellness education, community health and social service resources, and current health issues.
  • Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support is preferred.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, the community, and health and social service agencies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, Information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
