JOB SUMMARY:

Provide speech, language, and hearing services to students requiring these services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of: Communication disorders and treatment in the areas of language, articulation/phonology, voice, fluency, auditory processing and hearing screening; special populations such as students with Down’s Syndrome, autism, hearing impairment, neurological disorders, fetal alcohol syndrome and English as a Second Language; integration of speech and language development into subject content areas in elementary, middle and high schools.

Skilled in: Assessment of speech\-language disorders using informal and standardized assessments, lesson plan development, data collection, implementation of speech\-language activities to promote learning, teaching to individual student skill levels and behavior management.

Ability to: Manage time effectively, work independently, communicate orally and in writing, and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.

EXPERIENCE: Experience preferred but not required.

EDUCATION: Completion of Master’s degree in the area of Speech\-Language Pathology is preferred.

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with speech impaired endorsement. Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech\-Language Hearing Association is preferred, but not required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide screening and diagnostic services to identify students with communication disorders in the Newberg School District (including public school, private school and home school students.)
  • Provide speech\-language services, and monitor/report progress as determined by the student’s IEP to eligible students in the Newberg School District (including public school, private school and home school students.)
  • Serve as a case manager of speech\-language impaired students within a multidisciplinary team by maintaining student’s behavioral file, setting IEP meetings, generating meeting notices, facilitating IEP meetings, determining eligibility for services, developing IEP with goals, services, and placement of student, and distributing necessary documents after IEP is completed.
  • Bill Medicaid for evaluation and treatment of eligible students (if SLP is an eligible provider based upon Medicaid guidelines.)
  • Provide updated speech/language information concerning disorders and treatment options to building staff members and parents through workshops, inservice, or consultation.
  • Provide transition services to preschool students on Individualized Family Service Plans, when students are transitioning to elementary school.
  • Utilize and coordinate community resources to increase efficiency of diagnosis and treatment procedures. These are to include doctors, dentists, nurses, Chehalem Youth and Family Services, Services for Children and Families, and other specialists.
  • Promote continued staff communication concerning state and federal legislation which affects special education services and programs in speech and language.
  • Attend and participate in meetings called by the Director of Special Programs.
  • Attend scheduled pre\-referral meetings (SST) in each school served.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings at assigned building(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one\-to\-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Works in an office environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Ability to drive to other program sites and meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.

CLASSIFICATION:

Licensed, full time position, location TBD.

WORK DAYS/HOURS:

Work schedule 8 hours a day, Monday \- Friday.

SALARY:

Paid by timesheet at the per diem rate of the 2026\-2027 Licensed Salary Schedule. Salary range $52,339 \- $107,622\.
