Job Description:
To provide tutoring services for students currently enrolled in classes at the college, and to address general needs of the college. Assist faculty, staff, students and visitors while at Virginia Highlands Community College. Provide administrative, outreach, and clerical support to the MARC and the library as needed.
- Greets students, faculty, staff and visitors upon entry into the MARC.
- Assists students who need academic support in the MARC in approved subject area(s).
- Direct students, faculty, and staff to the MARC coordinator to make tutoring appointments, and assist in making appointments as needed.
- Check students in upon arrival and maintain records of sessions.
- Promptly and politely serve patrons, students, faculty, and staff in the MARC and elsewhere in the LRC and on campus as needed.
- Promptly and politely answer the telephone and respond to questions, refer, and/or transfer the call as appropriate.
- Assist with receipt of new materials when needed. Duties may include unpacking large and small boxes and carrying materials to shelves.
- Maintain confidentiality when assisting students.
- Sign in students upon beginning any/all tutoring.
- Assist the MARC coordinator with programming/events.
- Maintain the physical area of the MARC by organizing and tidying the space.
- Assist the library staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Grade of no less than B in the desired subject (no C, D, F, W, I)
- Prior tutoring/teaching/student support experience
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes 29 hours per week
- Detail oriented
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and Google docs.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Work experience in community colleges or other higher education settings preferred but not required.
- Ability to tutor in multiple disciplines

This is not a remote position. The vacancy is an on‑site role.
Special Assignments
