The Job
Welcome Health is a medical group providing best in class primary care to older adults in clinic, virtually, and in home. Grounded in the science and art of geriatric medicine, our providers seek to remove the barriers that older adults face in their pursuit of what matters most to them. Our philosophy is based on four underlying principles: 1\) deliver high quality care; 2\) prioritize the patient experience; 3\) provide personalized care centered on the patient’s goals; and 4\) leverage a team\-based, holistic model of approach to care delivery.
We seek an experienced Medical Assistant to temporarily support the fulfillment of Welcome Health’s mission to transform care delivery for all older people. This position may require flexibility in working in clinic or remotely in the field.
You Will
Work Area Preparation/Maintenance:
- Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.
- Maintains examination areas. This includes, preparing exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary clinic environment through daily cleaning.
- For clinic visits, support the clinician in preparing the patient for the visit, which may include rooming, checking vitals, transcribing medical history, etc.
- Contact patients to collect clinical and psycho\-social information
- Coaches or trains patients on how to utilize technology (e.g., tablets) to communicate with the care team and for virtual visits
- Under the supervision of physician or nurse, assists with performing assessments and treatments.
- Responsible for pre\-visit preparation (chart prep, labs, x\-ray, etc.) ensuring all required items have been completed.
- Sets up exam rooms and checks in patients.
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment. This includes taking patient histories and vital signs, gathering information related to health maintenance, specimen collection, updating health maintenance at patient visit, accurately identifies medication changes, updates allegories at each visit and documenting all patient care given.
- Reports significant findings and pertinent patient observations to clinic physician. Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
- Administers specific medications under direction of physician.
- Follows WHMG policies and procedures related to care (i.e. treatment, medication administration, documentation, storage and handling vaccines, sterilization, etc.).
- Performs duties within the MA scope of practice, as defined by the applicable state laws/regulations.
- As directed by the provider, submits referrals, authorizations and medication refill orders, and follows up with the patient accordingly
- Conducts routine quality control checks, including infection control measures, equipment QAs, and checks for expired medication and supplies
- Performs waived laboratory testing
- Schedules diagnostic testing
- Applies or assists with the application of durable medical equipment
- Participates in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations
- Assists the physician with office procedures: preparing instruments needed for suturing, providing equipment and solutions for biopsies, providing supplies needed for splinting.
- Screens telephone calls for referral to physician.
- Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
- Demonstrates an active concern for all customers (both external and internal) by responding to their needs and expectations in a positive and exemplary manner, thus promoting positive interpersonal relationships.
- Promptly responds to requests for service with courtesy and helpfulness.
- Listens attentively to and empathizes with customers, co\-workers and supervisors.
- Explains what he/she does. Gives appropriate information related to services performed making sure it is accurate, complete and understood.
- Attends to customer, co\-workers and supervisors needs with a gracious and respectful attitude. Answers all questions with patience and professionalism.
- Adheres to customer service excellence policies and standards.
- Handles complaints in a responsive and professional manner.
- Actively identifies and reports opportunities for improvement, seeks solutions and communicates through proper chain of command.
- Actively participates in departmental PI activities including committee involvement and assisting with formulating and monitoring PI criteria and indicators.
- Demonstrates flexibility and supports changes that improve quality of care, service and operations.
- Safely performs job duties by maintaining a safe and clean work environment and practicing safe work habits.
- Demonstrates understanding of fire, disaster, safety and infection control policies and attends and completes all required training and meetings in a timely manner.
- Experience delivering clinical care, preferably in an out\-patient or in\-home setting
- Prior experience working with older adults (65\+) is strongly preferred
- Active Medical Assistant certification
- Basic proficiency in MS office products
- Experience using Athena is preferred
- Thrives in a fast paced, ever\-changing environment, and excited to help build a great organization
- Comfortable with ambiguity and can work independently
- Fluency in Spanish is required. Test will be administered to assess proficiency.
