DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The Warehouse Worker is responsible for performing responsible supervisory and stock inventory control work in the operation of a central supply room or warehouse which services most of the departments and agencies of the City with common use items. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision of the Procurement Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises employees engaged in the requisition, receipt, inspection, storage, issuance, and minor repair of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Inputs and retrieves inventory information using a computer work station, and verifies information on computer\-generated documents.
  • Ensures security of supplies and equipment.
  • Creates and updates inventory records and makes periodic physical inventories to reconcile physical count with the inventory records.
  • Calls vendors/suppliers to resolve order discrepancies.
  • Reviews computer\-generated records and reports to determine ordering needs and supply room activity.
  • Resolves computer entry problems due to coding or format errors.
  • Prepares requisitions for supplies to maintain minimum inventory levels.
  • Checks incoming material for quality and quantity against invoices, purchase orders, packing slips, contract order release forms, or other documents.
  • Purchases priority items that are not in stock.
  • Issues general or specialized goods and supplies.
  • Devises storage, security, and accounting procedures.
  • Receives, unpacks, and stores general or specialized goods and supplies.
  • Implements and assesses the effectiveness of risk management programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Accurately calculates and documents daily fuel charges for various city departments.
  • Conducts routine morning rounds to city buildings for the retrieval of money bags and daily mail.
  • Prepares and sends invoices to the Finance department.
  • Regularly checks fuel readings.
  • Establishes and manages fuel keys for all City of Harlingen departments.
  • Coordinates the annual auction for the City of Harlingen.
  • Places orders for fuel required for City of Harlingen vehicles.
  • Contacts vendors to obtain price quotes for items needed.
  • Keeps the warehouse's Excel sheet updated with detailed records of all tickets and fuel transactions for each day.
  • Ensures that all fuel pumps at both locations are fully functional.
  • Maintains a monthly checklist for the inspection of storage tanks and spill buckets for Underground Storage Tanks (UST).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular, reliable, and non\-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others
  • Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles for City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon assignment.
  • SUPERVISION RECEIVED \& EXERCISED

  • General supervision is received from the Procurement Supervisor.
  • Exercises supervision over Warehouse Clerks.
  • QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

    Knowledge of:

  • Modern storekeeping methods and practices.
  • Remote computer terminal data input and retrieval processes.
  • A wide variety of supplies, tools, equipment and related terminology.
  • Functions of a computerized inventory control system including its uses, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Ability to:

  • Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibility over others.
  • Observe the confidential nature of work assignments and display discretion and integrity in performance of duties.
  • Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
  • Communicate orally in the English language with customers, vendors, or the public in a face\-to\-face, one\-on\-one setting or by telephone.
  • Observe and monitor employees' behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
  • Remain in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Observe, compare, or monitor data, such as excess amounts and turnover rates, to determine compliance with prescribed operating standards.
  • Read, comprehend, and make inferences from written material, including computerized data printouts of inventory management reports.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Education \& Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses, Certificates \& Registrations:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • UST Certification and Forklift Certificate preferred and must be obtained within one year of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers and bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to unpack, unload or shelve items. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving vehicle traffic. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
