ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
The Board of Education of the Sherburne\-Earlville
Central School District announces a vacancy for
the position of Superintendent of Schools with an
anticipated start date of July 1, 2026\.
Mr. Michael Rullo, District Superintendent of the Sole
Supervisory District of Delaware\-Chenango\-Madison\-
Otsego Counties, will assist the Sherburne\-Earlville
CSD Board of Education in the selection process. The
initial search for candidates will be closed; however,
finalists will be expected to provide a community
presentation. The Board of Education will make the
final decision as to the successful candidate. Applicants
are not to contact members of the Board of Education.

The deadline for the receipt of applications is April 10,
2026\. The Board anticipates completing first round
interviews the week of April 27, with final interviews the
week of May 12, and selecting the successful candidate
in May after the community forum on May 20, 2026\. The
new Superintendent is expected to begin employment
on July 1, 2026, or a mutually acceptable date.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT \& SALARY
The Board plans to offer an initial three\-year contract with a minimum
salary of $155,000 depending on the qualifications and experience
of the successful candidate. Residency is not required, but regular
attendance at school events is expected. The Sherburne\-Earlville

The Sherburne\-Earlville Central School District was formed
in 1967, when the former Sherburne Central School District
merged with the Earlville Central School District. The District
is located in the towns of Columbus, New Berlin, North Norwich,
Otselic, Plymouth, Sherburne and Smyrna in Chenango County,
and the towns of Brookfield, Georgetown, Hamilton and
Lebanon in Madison County. The district covers approximately
158 square miles.
STUDENT POPULATION: The current population of the school
district is 1,201 students and is organized by the following
configuration: grades UPK\-5 elementary (554 students), grades
6\-8 middle school (280 students), and grades 9\-12 high school
(367 students).
STAFF: The School District employs 141 instructional staff and
171 support staff, with 11 administrators, and 2 supervisors
overseeing the District’s programs.
PROGRAMS: Sherburne\-Earlville is an extraordinary school
district dedicated to the belief that the personal and academic
growth of each student flourishes in a caring and nurturing
environment. The goal of the instructional program is to
provide coordinated and systematic instruction on a UPK\-12
basis that will permit students to progress in their studies in
a continuous manner according to their abilities, interests and
educational needs. The District’s curriculum is aligned with NYS
Learning Standards and infused with current research\-based
instructional practice.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Instruction at our elementary school
is tailored to meet the unique learning needs of our grades
UPK\-5 students through the use of research\-based curricula
and strategies. Core academic areas are enhanced with a robust
offering of special\-area classes, including MakerSpace,
SmartLab, art, music, and physical education.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Our middle school offers continuous
instruction in basic\-skills areas and expands course offerings
in a number of specialized disciplines, including enrichment.
Instruction is delivered through single mods, and the staff is
organized into grade\-level interdisciplinary teams.
HIGH SCHOOL: Our high school is organized into content\-
based departments. Instruction is delivered within a traditional
schedule. A broad array of instructional programs—ranging
from academic intervention services to advanced placement
and college courses, and independent\-study programs—are
available to all students on the basis of individual needs and
requests. The programming is continually assessed with new
courses frequently offered. Sherburne\-Earlville High School is
accredited by the New York State Board of Regents.

COMMUNITY \& REGION
The Sherburne\-Earlville Central School District is the
largest employer in the community, which is largely rural
in character. Other employers include Chobani, New York
Central Mutual Insurance Company, Frontier Telecom, Baillie
Lumber, Chenango Valley Pet Food, Mid\-York Press, and
Golden Artist Colors. Chenango County ranks 10th in the
number of dairy farms in the state.
The community is served by modern and fully accredited
hospitals in nearby Norwich and Hamilton. Norwich serves
as the County seat, where a modern county office building,
county courthouse, and other county facilities are located.
Twenty colleges are within a reasonable driving distance from
the SECSD campus, including Colgate University (10\.4 miles),
Syracuse University (46\.9 miles), and Binghamton University
(58\.1 miles). Eight SUNY colleges, five other private institutions,
and four community colleges are also a short drive away.
Colgate University offers enrichment classes for S\-E High
School students, who also can take college\-level courses at
SUNY Morrisville’s Norwich Extension Campus and/or enroll
in Career and Technical Education programs at the Delaware\-
Chenango\-Madison\-Otsego BOCES Pole Campus in Norwich.
Local points of interest include Sherburne’s Paddleford Park,
Gaines Park, and Rogers Environmental Education Center.
Paddleford Park features an outdoor swimming pool, baseball
fields, picnic area, and playground. Gaines Park hosts summer
concerts and an art festival. Rogers Center offers a variety of
programs and events dedicated to enhancing environmental
awareness and appreciation of the natural world. All three
are free and open to the public.
The community’s cultural opportunities include the
Earlville Opera House and local public libraries in Sherburne,
Earlville and Smyrna. Turning Stone Resort Casino, which
offers a wide range of musical entertainment, is less than
an hour’s drive from Sherburne.
The area plays host to several weekend cultural and family
events throughout the year as well, such as Colorscape
Chenango, Blues Festival, Sherburne Arts Festival, and the
Chenango County Fair. Sherburne also is home to the famous
Sherburne Pageant of Bands, one of the oldest and largest
school\-band events on the East Coast. The Sherburne Pageant
of Bands takes place on the first weekend of June and will
celebrate its 77th anniversary this year.
