Job Overview
We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and highly organized Fleet Manager to oversee the daily operations of our trucking business. This role requires someone who can manage drivers, supervise dispatch/no expereince is okay, help coordinate load booking, solve day\-to\-day problems, and remain available when urgent operational issues arise.
The Fleet Manager will play a major role in keeping the business running smoothly by managing communication between drivers, dispatchers, virtual assistants, and ownership. This position requires leadership, accountability, strong decision\-making, and the ability to handle fast\-moving situations in the transportation industry.
Key ResponsibilitiesFleet and Driver Management
- Manage the day\-to\-day operations of company vehicles and drivers
- Oversee driver performance, communication, and overall accountability
- Remain available to answer phone calls from drivers and dispatchers when issues arise
- Assist drivers with operational problems while they are on the road
- Handle urgent situations involving delays, breakdowns, route issues, customer concerns, or load\-related problems
- Ensure drivers are following company expectations and operational procedures
- Help retrieve company box trucks when necessary
- Must be capable of driving a box truck if needed for business\-related situations
- Book loads and help maximize productivity of fleet operations
- Oversee what dispatchers are booking to ensure loads make sense operationally and financially
- Monitor dispatch activity to make sure routes, schedules, and bookings are handled correctly
- Communicate with dispatchers regarding load planning, issues, and performance
- Help ensure trucks are moving efficiently and minimizing downtime
- Review load decisions and help resolve any dispatch\-related mistakes or inefficiencies
- Manage virtual assistants (VAs) and assign tasks based on business needs
- Help hire, train, and supervise VAs for daily operational support
- Use platforms such as Upwork
- Use Indeed and other hiring platforms to recruit drivers, dispatchers, and other support staff
- Participate in hiring and firing decisions based on company needs and employee performance
- Help build and maintain a reliable operations team
- Solve day\-to\-day operational issues quickly and professionally
- Make decisions under pressure and help keep the business moving during unexpected situations
- Handle employee concerns, operational conflicts, missed calls, scheduling issues, and service disruptions
- Take initiative in finding solutions rather than waiting for direction
- Be on call when management, drivers, or dispatch need support
- Help improve workflow, communication, and efficiency across the company
- Previous experience in trucking, transportation, dispatch, logistics, or fleet management preferred
- Strong understanding of driver management and fleet operations
- Knowledge of booking loads and monitoring dispatch activity
- Experience hiring staff or coordinating team members is preferred
- Familiarity with Upwork for hiring virtual assistants
- Familiarity with Indeed for hiring drivers or office staff
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to solve problems quickly and make decisions under pressure
- Reliable, professional, and highly organized
- Must have basic computer skills and be able to use a computer for communication, job posting, team management, and daily operations
- Must be able to drive a box truck or retrieve a box truck when needed
- Must have a basic computer or laptop with internet access
- Must be available by phone when drivers, dispatchers, or management need assistance
- Must be dependable and responsive in urgent situations
- Must be capable of multitasking in a fast\-paced work environment
- Must understand the importance of communication, follow\-up, and accountability in the trucking business
