    The Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, College of Engineering invites applications for a non\-tenure track Researcher position. The position involves supporting research in coastal hazards, flood modeling, and infrastructure resilience, including conducting coastal flood and probabilistic hazard modeling, assessing infrastructure vulnerability under multi\-hazard conditions, and contributing to technical reports, proposals, peer\-reviewed publications and student mentorship. The position will report directly to Dr. Oceana Francis (oceanaf@hawaii.edu) and is physically based in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1\. Under PI supervision, lead the coastal flood and event\-based modeling, working with the team’s engineers on defining event scenarios;

    2\. Provide probabilistic flooding due to tides, storm surges and tsunamis to assess seismic and saltwater intrusion impacts and help guide adaptation decisions;

    3\. Work with exposure and vulnerability of building infrastructure under earthquake, tsunami, storm surges, and tides;

    4\. Develop fragility curves for building infrastructure, coastal works and/or industrial facilities under the impact of tsunami, earthquakes, coastal storms or a combination of them, including scenarios of sea level change;

    5\. Provide mentorship for graduate research assistants and undergraduate student employees;

    6\. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on various research activities within the Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering Department and collaborating units;

    7\. Participate in preparing project reports, research proposals, technical reports, and journal articles;

    8\. Produce at least one first\-authored peer reviewed article per year.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A Master’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing and in a filed relevant to the position; facility in the techniques of the relevant field; accuracy, alertness, and adaptability. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

    Desirable Qualifications

    1\. PhD in coastal engineering, geophysics, civil engineering, or a relevant related field.

    2\. Experience as a postdoctoral fellow or design engineer in coastal hazards, or equivalent in the related field.

    3\. Research focus applicable to or experience with Hawaii and/or the Pacific region.

    4\. Minimum five years of experience using the SMS platform.

    5\. Experience setting up and running 2D hydrodynamic models.

    6\. Experience in ArcGIS, geospatial and statistical analyses, shoreline feature mapping, surveying, remote sensing, photogrammetric

    interpretation, point cloud processing, and digital elevation models.

    7\. Experience in operating survey grade GNSS and other topographic survey equipment.

    8\. Experience working with large datasets with strong data management skills.

    9\. Experience automating workflows using MATLAB, Python, or similar.

    10\. Experience producing static and web\-based cartographic products.

    11\. Ability to pursue research both independently and collaboratively.

    12\. Record of written communication, such as papers and/or reports.

    13\. Demonstrated ability in applying laboratory and field safety rules and procedures, and maintaining safe working conditions.

    14\. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students and/or assistants when appropriate.

    15\. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. To Apply
