About the Program and Clinician Position:

Our Transition Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC), overseen by the Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR), ensure the well\-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0\-17\) who cross the US border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involved placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for, and assessing, potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services.

The Clinician will provide trauma\-sensitive treatment panning and delivery for all children in the program. The Clinician will also provide assessments to the assigned youth while maintaining professionalism in all areas, include confidentiality.

How you get to use your skills as a Clinician…

  • Provide individual therapy and group counseling to youth
  • Administer required behavioral and mental health assessments for youth
  • Carry a caseload of up to twelve youth, ages ranging from 0\-17 years
  • Coordinate services for each youth in conjunction with the case manager
  • Provide therapy during traditional and non\-tradition hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Participate in a 24\-hour on\-call phone availability for program youth and foster parents
  • Must be willing and able to positively step forward to assist in other programs, if requested, to maintain a full caseload, assist fellow staff/families, and complete other projects and duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor, program leadership, or agency leadership
  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings
  • Attend weekly staffing meetings
  • Attend weekly group therapy sessions
  • Provide record keeping and documentation for all clinical activities (case documentation)
  • Required Experience as a Clinician:

  • LMSW or LMHC required
  • One year of postgraduate direct service delivery experience preferred
  • Experience with a strength\-based, cognitive behavioral, and trauma\-sensitive approach to treating trouble youth preferred
  • Strong proficiency in completing the administrative components of treatment (case documentation) is required
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures, including recent immigrants, non\-English speakers, and LGBTQ children
  • Bilingual \- English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole required. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency is required. The position itself required Spanish or Haitian\-Creole speaking, writing, and reading proficiency
  • Valid NYS Driver's License preferred
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations
  • Physical Requirements of a Clinician:

  • Word processing: Including responding to e\-mails, composting letters, completing computerized documentation, transcribing minutes for meetings, etc: This involves sitting at a computer for several hours a day
  • Completing timely documentation as typing, copying, and stapling
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Sit/ride in vehicles, buses, subways, trains, planes \- public transportation for length periods of time
  • Walk up/down stairs
  • Walk to enter/exit the subway and other public transportation
  • Walk several blocks to get to the required location
  • Schedule of a Clinician: Exempt

  • Regular hours entail Monday \- Friday 9:00am \- 5:00pm, 10:00am \- 6:00pm, or 11:00am \- 7:00pm, Sunday \- Thursday, or Tuesday\- Saturday. Must be flexible to meet program needs
  • Clinicians will be responsible for completing field work as needed (e.g., home\-based, community settings, and other locations as needed based on agency/caseload needs)
  • Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, holidays, and weekends as required
