Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel \& Cremation Services in West Lafayette, Indiana, is looking for a compassionate and dependable Funeral Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will work alongside licensed funeral directors to provide dignified, professional care to families and their loved ones. This is a hands\-on position that requires a calm presence, a strong work ethic, and genuine respect for the families we serve.
What You’ll Do
- Assist funeral directors with the preparation and arrangement of services, including setting up the chapel, visitation room, and graveside services
- Transport deceased individuals with professionalism and care, following all applicable regulations
- Assist with the transfer of remains from hospitals, nursing facilities, and residences
- Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of all facilities, vehicles, and equipment
- Greet and assist families and guests during visitations and services
- Help with administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and preparing service materials
- Support the funeral director during ceremonies, including directing traffic, assisting with caskets, and coordinating with cemetery staff
- Handle flowers, memorial items, and personal effects with care and accuracy
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in mortuary science is a plus
- Prior experience in a funeral home, healthcare, or related field preferred but not required — we are willing to train the right person
- Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift and assist in moving up to 150 lbs with proper equipment and a team member
- Available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on\-call shifts as needed
- Professional appearance and demeanor at all times
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow multi\-step procedures accurately
- Genuine compassion for people experiencing grief and a commitment to serving families with dignity
