- Acts as front\-line customer service for residents and visitors to Water Department
- Assists in the daily, monthly and annual water utility billing processes, including transferring data between Wauwatosa, the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Metro Sewer District (MMSD), performing reviews of water consumption and billing reports, researching exceptions in customer accounts, and making changes as needed.
- Accepts and records payments for revenue due to the water utility for water utility bills, permits, and other miscellaneous charges.
- Utilizes financial software, web applications and bank products to record water utility revenue, create invoices, update customer account information, research customer issues, post accounting entries, and perform reconciliations.
- Coordinates the bankruptcy process for water utility customer accounts, calculates revised bill amounts, and performs account adjustments.
- Prepares various financial and water utility reports and maintains electronic records.
- Generates customer letters and documents, schedules appointments and provides issue resolution to both internal and external customers either in person, on the telephone or via electronic communication.
- Purchases supplies for the Water Department
- Processes purchase card and invoice payment into the City’s financial program.
- Assists in updating the city website
- Supports the property tax collection, treasury management, and cash receipting functions of the Treasurer’s Office by collecting payments and providing customer service during that office’s peak collection periods.
- Performs clerical functions such as mail sorting and filing.
- Identifies and implements opportunities for process improvement and maintains procedures.
- Provides front\-line clerical and customer service support at the City Hall Welcome Desk and other City departments on a regular basis.
- Provides coverage for other clerical staff as needed.
- Performs other tasks and project\-related work as assigned by supervisor.

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3\-5 years of related administrative assistant experience
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to learn other software.
- Strong data entry skills and the ability to utilize web\-based or other electronic financial applications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi\-task, prioritize a variety of projects and function under deadlines.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve.
- Organizational skills.
- Prior cash handling experience preferred.

The City of Wauwatosa is looking for an Office Assistant in the Water Business office! This person will perform a range of clerical and administrative functions for the Finance Department, support the Water Utility Business Office and the Treasurer’s Office. This position also provides front\-line clerical and customer service support at the City Hall Welcome Desk on a regular basis.
The pay range for this position is $25\.17 – $32\.16 hourly, with the starting wage depending on experience and qualifications. Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, twist and reach, kneel, or crouch and use hands to finger, type, handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to understand conversations within an office environment and have conversations with both internal and external customers. The employee is occasionally required to lift and or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
