  • Under the guidance of the department chair, provide leadership, oversight and management to a large and complex academic and research department, which include the areas of business and finance, extensive contract and grant administration, academic and staff human resources, teaching and instructional support, IT operations and support, space and research and teaching laboratory support needs. Actively encourage and participate in training and education of staff; implement team building with administrative staff and participate in management meetings with Department Chair and other supervisors/managers to discuss school or departmental issues, concerns and needs. Participate in and oversees the yearly planning of budget together with Chair, faculty and staff.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience performing and managing complex financial planning and analysis.
  • Supervisory experience to recruit, train, evaluate and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated experience building a high performing team dedicated to excellent customer service.
  • Experience managing research facilities.
  • Strategic planning and analytical skills to evaluate programs and provide sound recommendations.
  • Skills in change management.
  • Skills to professionally communicate and solve problems with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing a higher education unit within the UC system.
  • Experience with Oracle Financials.
  • Skills to incorporate AI into the daily workflow to improve efficiency.

    The Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology Department has state and extramural funds with annual expenditures in excess of $7\.5M, 12 staff, 52 Academic Senate faculty, 8 Academic Federation faculty, 1 WOS faculty, 3 recalled faculty, 30 Emeritus faculty, 9 GSR or postdocs and 17 student assistants for a total of 132 employees.
