Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs basic administrative and clerical (front office) tasks, as well as routine medical (back office) tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed physician or designated mid\-level providers. The CMA supports medical providers within the scope of practice for a medical assistant, which includes: preparing and placing patients in exam rooms, collecting and recording patient data (such as medications, height, weight, vital signs, pain rating, fall risk), preparing patients for clinician evaluation, assisting with medical procedures, applying and removing dressings, administering injections, and completing other similar procedures.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient admission, review medical records requests, and gather health information (personal and family medical/social history, medications, allergies) for the provider.
  • Record routine vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximetry).
  • Work at multiple work sites as required by clinic needs.
  • Support primary care and specialty services as needed (e.g., dermatology, cardiology, pediatrics, etc.).
  • Facilitate medication refills after provider approval.
  • Assist providers with paperwork, lab requisitions, referrals, and related documentation.
  • Perform routine lab tests in the clinic (urine dipstick, pregnancy tests, finger\-stick blood glucose, etc.) and document results.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, and oral medications as ordered.
  • Perform visual acuities, hearing screenings, spirometry, EKGs, and nebulizer treatments as instructed.
  • Prepare patients for exam or procedures (including positioning, draping, prep).
  • Collect and label specimens for outside laboratories.
  • Organize and prepare procedural trays for providers.
  • Obtain consents for procedures.
  • Assist providers with procedures such as minor surgeries, biopsies, sutures, pap smears, pelvic exams, and ear lavages.
  • Remove sutures, staples, splints, and external devices as directed and within scope.
  • Support pediatric/CHDP/VFC programs and maintain VFC records.
  • Apply and change simple dressings.
  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments and facilitate urgent/walk\-in care as needed.
  • Review provider instructions with patients regarding home care and return visits.
  • Record and document messages and patient complaints (not triaging).
  • Conduct daily quality control/POCT documentation in logs.
  • Maintain and document inventory/outdate logs for supplies and medications; perform monthly checks.
  • Maintain records for medication injectables and sample storage.
  • Monitor and document biohazard/sharps container disposal.
  • Administer oxygen therapy and prescribed drops (nose, ear, eye) as ordered.
  • Apply topical antibiotic ointments per provider direction.
  • Practice and promote employee and patient safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Required Education \& Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • A State Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Preferred Education \& Experience

  • Experience as a Medical Assistant in a community clinic setting
  • Licenses/Certificates

  • Valid BLS Certification
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Pre\-Employment Requirements

  • Pre\-employment drug testing.
  • Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index.

Working Environment \& Physical Demands

Working Environment: The work environment is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood\-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Push patient weight in wheelchair. Other Requirements of Employment

Background Check Requirements:

Pre\-employment Drug Testing and a Department of Justice Fingerprinting clearance through Federal, State and Child Abuse Index is a contingency for an offer of employment. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at Rolling Hills Clinic.

Vaccination Requirements:

Provide vaccination records to show proof of immunity for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP \& Hep B. If the records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
