Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake processes, including gathering medical histories and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Prepare examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, and proper setup of necessary equipment like X\-ray machines or other diagnostic tools.
- Support physicians during procedures by handing instruments, administering medications under supervision, and assisting with minor surgical or dermatological treatments.
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately by documenting patient information, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), treatment notes, and medication administration details.
- Perform basic life support (BLS) procedures when necessary and respond effectively to emergency situations within hospital or clinic environments.
- Conduct patient education on treatment plans, medication instructions, and follow\-up care to promote health literacy and compliance.
- Support administrative functions such as appointment scheduling, insurance verification, data entry, and maintaining organized patient records to ensure seamless clinic operations.
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in outpatient or inpatient settings; experience in hospital environments or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across various specialties including dermatology, geriatrics, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or medical\-surgical units.
- Familiarity with EHR systems for accurate documentation of patient encounters and ICD coding for billing purposes.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as X\-ray operation or medication administration are advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with a focus on patient service excellence; ability to handle diverse clinical situations efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively in fast\-paced environments such as urgent care clinics or emergency medicine departments.
- Hospital experience or clinic experience in outpatient settings preferred; familiarity with Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers is a plus.
