    This recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future Industrial Machinist/Mechanics \- Lead at the West Point Treatment PlantCareer Service vacancies within the Wastewater Treatment Division over the next 6 months.

    Lead and inspire a high\-performing team of engine mechanics who are critical to keeping the West Point Treatment Plant and multiple offsite facilities running safely and efficiently. In this role, you will provide expert technical leadership and hands\-on support for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of backup generators and the cogeneration system that powers essential wastewater treatment operations.

    As a subject matter expert on assigned Capital Improvement Projects, you will contribute technical recommendations for equipment selection, system upgrades, and plant improvements. You will also plan, schedule, and coordinate engine mechanic support alongside construction managers and plant craft teams to ensure safe, efficient, and timely execution of work.

    About the Role:

    The West Point Engine Mechanic Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of wastewater treatment operations by leading and working alongside a crew of highly skilled journey\-level engine mechanics. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of engine\-driven equipment\-including diesel generators, biogas generators, diesel\-driven pumps, biogas raw sewage pump engines, and related ancillary systems\-both onsite and across a large network of offsite pump and regulator stations throughout King County. The role also includes responsibility for ensuring COGEN run\-time requirements are met and maintaining clear communication with Seattle City Light (SCL) and other stakeholders.

    In this Lead role, the incumbent collaborates closely with other trade leads, planner\-schedulers, and plant operations staff to develop and coordinate effective work schedules. The Engine Mechanic Lead supports both preventive maintenance programs and unscheduled corrective work, making sound decisions aligned with plant and offsite operational priorities. The position also manages a rotating standby schedule to support emergency response outside normal working hours.

    Safety is a top priority. The Lead ensures a safe work environment by enforcing proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout procedures, and safe work practices related to electrical, mechanical, and environmental hazards. This includes compliance with Permit\-Required Confined Space entry, hot work permitting, and other applicable safety requirements.

    Job Duties

    What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide lead direction and technical assistance to engine mechanics. Lead responsibilities include, but are not limited to, determining work assignments, setting priorities and schedules, training staff, participating in hiring, and providing feedback on performance evaluations. Technical duties include training, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining, overhauls and repairs on engine driven equipment and generator power systems, (up to 13\.09 KV), that includes; power generation systems, diesel standby emergency generators, large bore co\-generating engine and systems, engine driven pumps and all related ancillary equipment.
  • And the COGEN (sentence cut off....)

  • Maintain records on emission testing/tuning on SI co\-generation and pump engine equipment as required.
  • Maintain records of fuel tank testing, permit inspection and certifications as required for all tank and underground fuel tanks as required by Department of Ecology (DOE).
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure the teams work meets trades standards, schedules are met, and safe working practices are followed. Monitor work quality and quantity, provide suggestions to supervisors and staff to improve methods and to resolve problems.
  • Review and evaluate work orders to determine scheduling and priorities. Organize, prepare, maintain, and verify accuracy of equipment history records, ensuring work is performed efficiently and cost\-effectively.
  • Make decisions and facilitate communication between work groups as required.

  • Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

    Qualifications You Bring:

  • Demonstrated ability of journey level experience on all aspects of maintenance, overhaul, repair and testing of Diesel and/or multi fuel engines.
  • Extensive skill in troubleshooting and resolving engine driven equipment and machinery issues with limited documentation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and lead\-work principles, including basic human resources practices.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, deliver and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying maintenance planning and scheduling techniques and principles.
  • Skill in developing and working effectively in a team environment, including collaboration with operational staff and other skilled trades and contractors.
  • Has the ability to follow and apply county ESJ principles and policies.

    Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Washington State Driver's License

  • Lead experience.
  • Advanced Knowledge and hands on experience with all aspects of maintenance, overhaul, repair and testing of Diesel and/or multi fuel engines up to 5000 HP .
  • Factory training in (CAT, Cummins, Waukesha) engines etc.
  • Boom truck operator certification.
  • UST operator certification
  • CDL certification (Class B CDL with Tanker (N) and Hazardous Materials (H) endorsements).
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated off\-site facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, kneel, crawl, walk and climb using ladders, catwalks, and stairways, work indoors and outdoors, in open tanks and vaults, and around noxious odors and high noise environments.
  • Workplace Exposure:

  • Incumbents work in all weather conditions in an industrial wastewater environment. Will be around chemicals and biohazards. Will be exposed to loud noise. Will be entering confined spaces. Will need to wear a respirator in some conditions.

    Working Conditions:

    * Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant \- 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199\.

    * Work Schedule: This full\-time position works a 40\-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

    * Union Representation: This position is represented by SEIU Local 925\.
