Summary

The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach leads and administers Principia College’s intercollegiate women’s indoor volleyball program in alignment with NCAA, conference, and institutional standards. This position holds shared responsibility for the strategic recruitment, enrollment, development, and retention of student‑athletes who align with Principia’s academic standards, institutional values, and enrollment priorities.

The coach oversees all aspects of coaching, recruiting, academic support, and program administration while fostering an environment that supports the holistic development of student‑athletes. The role collaborates closely with Athletics, the Office of Admissions, faculty, and campus partners to advance Principia’s mission and contribute to institutional enrollment success.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership \& Team Development (Indoor Volleyball – Fall)

  • Leads the intercollegiate women’s volleyball program in compliance with NCAA, conference, and Principia College standards.
  • Develops in‑season and off‑season training programs grounded in best coaching practices.
  • Designs and executes effective technical, tactical, and strategic coaching plans.
  • Recruits, supervises, mentors, and evaluates assistant coaches.
  • Prepares practice plans, training sessions, and match strategies.
  • Implements assessment plans for student‑athlete and program development.
  • Manages team equipment, including distribution, recovery, and inventory.
  • Provides annual recommendations regarding budget, equipment, and facility needs.
  • Works with the Director of Athletics to develop competitive and sustainable schedules.
  • Oversees management of home contests, including statistics, staffing, and operations.
  • Coordinates team travel logistics and communicates plans to Athletics and Student Life.
  • Collaborates with Athletics, Advancement, and Alumni Relations to strengthen alumni and community engagement.
  • Ensures adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional expectations; promptly reports violations.
  • Completes assigned administrative tasks, documentation, and committee responsibilities.
  • ### Strategic Recruitment \& Enrollment Partnership

    Recruiting is a core leadership responsibility of this role and is evaluated based on both process and outcomes.

  • Designs and executes a strategic recruiting plan aligned with Principia’s enrollment goals, academic expectations, institutional values, and market priorities.
  • Recruits student‑athletes who demonstrate academic readiness, character alignment, and long‑term fit with Principia College.
  • Collaborates closely with the Office of Admissions to align recruiting communication, messaging, timelines, visit strategy, application flow, and yield behavior.
  • Utilizes shared systems and processes, including accurate and timely documentation of recruiting activity in CRM platforms (REEF/Banner).
  • Maintains consistent, mission‑aligned communication with prospective students and families through approved channels (phone, email, social media, and in‑person contact).
  • Designs and leads camps, clinics, and recruiting events that support institutional enrollment strategy in both traditional and emerging markets.
  • Regularly attends recruiting events and competitions to identify prospective student‑athletes.
  • Coordinates on‑campus visits with Admissions and Athletics to deliver a cohesive, student‑centered experience.
  • Establishes proactive strategies to support student‑athlete retention and year‑to‑year program sustainability.
  • Demonstrates shared accountability for recruiting effectiveness, with performance evaluated through agreed‑upon outcomes as part of the annual performance review process.
  • Supports consistency in recruiting expectations and practices across all head coach positions within the Athletics Department.

  • Monitors academic progress and supports student‑athletes experiencing academic, personal, or social challenges.
  • Ensures athletic participation supports—rather than hinders—academic success.
  • Communicates student concerns promptly and collaboratively to the Director of Athletics and appropriate campus partners.
  • Upholds Principia’s conduct expectations and addresses issues with professionalism and care.
  • Conducts end‑of‑season evaluations and senior exit interviews focused on development, retention, and continuous improvement.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Student of Christian Science preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred or progress toward an advanced credential.
  • Demonstrated coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate or comparable level.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to departmental and institutional goals.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and people‑management skills.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain student‑athletes aligned with academic and institutional priorities.
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and standard office technology.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and character educator.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive starting salary range for this position: $54,183\-$61,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
