Job Title: Medical Support Assistant

Shift Schedule: Monday Friday Between 6:00 AM 6:00 PM (including federal holidays)
How many shifts needed per month: Full\-time coverage (approx. 20 22 shifts/month per FTE)
License: Not required
Certifications:
- VA Privacy and Information Security Awareness training (mandatory)
- High School Diploma required
- One year above high school (college or equivalent) OR combination of education and experience preferred
- Appointment scheduling and calendar management
- Customer service and patient interaction
- Knowledge of healthcare administrative workflows
- Data entry and EHR systems (ISS/Oracle, VistA preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- High attention to detail
- Perform receptionist and administrative support duties
- Schedule and manage patient appointments per guidelines
- Maintain and update patient records and scheduling systems
- Handle incoming calls, messages, and patient inquiries
- Verify patient eligibility, demographics, and insurance
- Monitor consults, recalls, and scheduling requests
- Document all patient interactions and scheduling actions
- Coordinate with internal departments (ROI, Enrollment, Travel, etc.)
- Operate office equipment (copiers, scanners, etc.)
- Comply with VA policies, SOPs, and confidentiality standards
- Complete required trainings and use assigned systems effectively
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Subject to background/security investigation
- Must be proficient in English
- On\-site role at VA (non\-personal services)
- Must meet performance standards (accuracy, responsiveness, patient service)
Education:
Experience needed: Minimum 6 months of clerical/administrative/office experience
Special Skills needed:
Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks
