Job Description:
Summary:
Kogod Financial Operations Team is seeking a motivated and detail\-oriented student worker to assist with a variety of administrative and financial tasks. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the department's operations, including correspondence with faculty, staff, and external vendors, processing payments, maintaining records and administration for Kogod student workers, and providing support with expense reimbursement submissions. The position will report to the Assistant Director of Financial Operations at KSB.
Essential Functions:
- Regularly update the KSB Finance Team work management tool to categorize and label all the incoming work requests thereby enabling effective work management and request tracking.
- Process payments, including verifying accuracy, obtaining necessary approvals, and ensuring timely payments including reviewing invoices, creating requisitions, and requesting receipts/payments from central accounts payable.
- Track payments and drive any issues to resolution by working with Kogod faculty, department managers, or vendors.
- Update tracker sent out during Spring for subsequent academic year faculty student worker requests (typically research assistant, teaching assistant roles).
- Based on periodic list of “inactive” student workers \- reach out to faculty members to confirm the status of their student employee. Track list of students who should be terminated and list of those students who should remain active workers.
- Assist in drafting and managing correspondence with staff, students, faculty and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and professional communication. Conduct financial analysis and prepare reports as needed to support departmental decision\-making.
- Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and process correspondence, reports, and presentations as needed.
- Be organized and maintain system to organize documents and information.
- Support team with general administrative tasks, including photocopying, scanning, and organizing.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as needed or assigned.

- 10 hours per week.
- $17\.95 per hour.
- Current enrollment as a student at American University, preferably in the Kogod School of Business. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with financial operations and accounting principles is a plus.
- Strong organizational and time\-management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with clients, customers, and team members.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Discretion in handling confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Prior experience with Workday or similar financial management systems is desirable but not required.
- Flexible scheduled hours, typically 10 hours per week, depending on the student's schedule and departmental needs. Finance Student Assistant will be required to work in\-person with occasional opportunities for remote work.
