The Field Outreach Coordinator supports the Volunteer Services and Park Operations departments in the coordination and implementation of group volunteer projects. The Field Outreach Coordinator is responsible for greeting and leading group volunteers, participating in maintenance tasks, maintaining the volunteer outreach supply trailer, and completing associated administrative tasks. This position also provides assistance to other Volunteer Services and Park Operations projects as needed.
1\. Hosts volunteer groups throughout all 18 park reservations. Typical duties include but are not limited to: greeting groups, checking in registered volunteers, working alongside groups to accomplish maintenance tasks and thanking groups before departure.
2\. Meets regularly with Park Managers and maintenance staff in assigned region to identify volunteer projects, create schedules and coordinate supplies needed.
3\. Maintains volunteer outreach supply trailer in assigned region, before, during and after each volunteer group project. Ensure supplies are replenished and tools, hardware and equipment are clean and in working condition.
4\. Travels to various locations throughout the park district, including remote locations. Drives Park District vehicle.
5\. Assists in the daily coordination and administrative\-related duties of the Group Volunteer Program.
6\. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
7\. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co\-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
8\. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Requirements:
- High school diploma required. Associate degree, or progress towards an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources, natural sciences, human resources, communication, administration or a related field preferred.
- At least one year of experience in volunteer coordination, park maintenance, natural resource management or fieldwork; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job.
- Strong leadership skills required: must be able to support park staff and lead volunteer groups through the completion of assigned tasks.
- Strong communication skills with public speaking experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform various physical requirements of park maintenance work.
- Ability to utilize basic hand tools for the purpose of training and instructing volunteers.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office programs with data entry experience.
- Prior experience working with and/or coordinating volunteers preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one\-on\-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Work Schedule: Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
