The West Burlington Independent School District has an opening for a full\-time Elementary Administrative Assistant. Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills needed. Must have the ability to multi\-task effectively in a fast\-passed office environment. Starting pay is $19\.77/hr.

- Working closely with the elementary principal, office clerk, elementary school counselor and school nurse
- Greeting visitors, students and staff
- Facilitating sign in for substitutes and visitors to the school
- Answering phone calls
- Assisting with registration and enrolling of new students
- Ordering supplies from outside vendors and our warehouse
- Writing newsletters and other communication to parents and staff and sending it via email, phone or handouts.
- Working with outside groups who want to use the school facility
- Assisting with coordinating events for the school
- Working with substituteschecking in, giving keys, instructions, etc.
- Arranging for subs for staff
- Updating staff lists as needed
- Updating School Emergency Plans (fire drills/severe weather) prior to the beginning of school (postings for classrooms on where classes report, maps to show where classes report, etc.)
- Scheduling monthly fire drills, severe weather drill, lock down drills, recording required information about each drill
- Working with PTO to assist with communication, copies/handouts
- Assisting principal and with their duties (taking phone messages, handling correspondence, calling parents scheduling appointments)
- Assisting in supervision of students waiting in office for discipline or for parent pickup
- Managing and receipting money brought into the office according to district procedures
- Maintaining class lists as needed
- Maintaining cumulative records for students
- Assisting with moving staff to cover classrooms, recess and lunch duties when a sub is not available
- Managing the ordering and care of copy machine and workroom equipment
- Cross training to be able to perform duties of helping students with meds, etc.
- Scheduling time for fall pictures with school photographer
- Other duties as assigned
- Organize and maintain student attendance, schedules, cumulative folders, and records. Answer the telephone and take messages. Type, duplicate, and collate various materials. Be knowledgeable of current office practices, new procedures, and forms for office use. Set up and work at new school year registration.
- Works primarily with elementary school administration with discipline, attendance, and student event activities.
- Minimum High School Diploma; Post Secondary Training preferred not required
- Strong communication skills; both verbal and written
- care to health related needs of students
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
- Greets all visitors courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs them to the proper person.
- Handles all make\-up slips and attendance reports, including calling the student's parents when we have not received a call about their child's absence.
- Answers all office telephones calls courteously and responds appropriately to requests for information, Takes messages via phone or radio
- Notifies students and the principal concerning the number of tardies and unexcused absences on a timely basis.
- High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability and willingness to learn a must
- Working knowledge of and experience with applications; such as:
- Word processing
- Database and spreadsheets
- Data entry (Campus \- Student Information System)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and accurately maintain records
- General office machines usage and troubleshooting
- Assists with student registration
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior successful clerical experience preferred.
