Performs clerical duties and is responsible for some specialized data entry relating to the Adult Corrections Detention Facility and to the NCIC System. The work in this position involves varied and occasionally complex clerical and administrative methods and problems, and may require the exercise of judgment based on the knowledge gained through experience. Serves as an assistant to corrections personnel in a variety of complex and confidential reporting, and records that requires knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures as well as state and local law. The incumbent plans and carries out assignments under general supervision of the Administrative Sergeant and provides assistance to correctional deputies and jail records personnel as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Significant interaction and coordination among correctional personnel, records office personnel, court administration employees, and those personnel in the records office responsible for the administration of NCIC operations and communication with other law enforcement agencies.
External: Significant contact with the other state and local government agencies that house inmates in the Detention Center. There is also significant contact with the public related to questions and concerns of inmates. The nature of the job is that most personal contacts are to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and to provide a service.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

- Graduation from high school or GED and three (3\) years of related experience; or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be able to attend training at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to obtain a Basic NCIC certification.
- Serves as the NCIC system operator and Data Entry Clerk in the Sheriff’s Office Adult Correctional Detention Facility, making entries into the NCIC as necessary.
- Data entry for the booking of new prisoners into the Adult Correctional Detention Facility may be required on an as needed basis with correctional deputies providing security during this process.
- Data entry during the release process of inmates may be required.
- Enters data relating to warrants, booking, releases and inmate record information into the computer system.
- Runs NCIC/TIES checks when requested by correctional deputies and patrolmen.
- Operates standard office equipment such as desktop computer, calculator, fax machine, etc.
- Performs related work as required.
- Assists in the duties and responsibilities of a Data Entry Clerk as necessary.
- English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Administrative practices and procedures related to investigative activities such as forms, terminology, and records.
- Office automation and information technology in an administrative and records environment.
- Functions of other governmental jurisdictions and authorities as they relate to investigative activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well\-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
