The Senior Research is an early\-career investigator responsible for leading applied research and evaluation projects using real\-world data, with a strong emphasis on electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and claims data.
This role requires deep technical expertise in clinical and administrative data and clinical processes, especially at community health centers. The individual will serve as a hands\-on analyst, working closely with a Senior Health Services Researcher to execute high\-quality studies that inform primary care delivery, workforce development, and patient outcomes in community\-based settings, particularly Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
The position emphasizes applied, implementation\-oriented research, with a focus on translating complex data into actionable insights for clinical and operational decision\-making.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical \& Claims Data Analysis
- Serve as a hands\-on analyst on multiple projects using EMR/EHR and claims data.
- Extract, clean, transform, and analyze structured and unstructured clinical and administrative data.
- Apply advanced statistical and epidemiologic methods, including:
- Longitudinal analysis
- Multilevel modeling
- Regression and quasi\-experimental designs
- 95% accuracy in data preparation, documentation, and analytic outputs.
- Develop reproducible analytic workflows using tools such as Python, R, SAS, or equivalent.
- 2 complex research or evaluation projects annually.
- 2 distinct research methodologies annually (e.g., quantitative, mixed methods, implementation evaluation).
- Conduct analyses that meet standards for peer\-reviewed publication.
- Collaborate closely with senior researchers to design studies grounded in epidemiologic principles.
- Contribute to interpretation of findings within clinical and operational contexts .
- Work with clinical and IT teams to understand data architecture, workflows, and limitations of EMR/EHR and claims data.
- Use real\-world data to evaluate:
- Demonstrate familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., ICD, CPT, LOINC).
- 2 manuscripts annually, drafting all major sections with minimal guidance.
- 3 co\-authored manuscripts annually.
- 2 research reports or presentations annually for internal or external audiences.
- 1 national or professional conference annually.
- Translate analytic findings into clear, actionable insights for non\-technical audiences.
- Lead at least 1 small proposal annually (e.g., pilot, seed funding, or letter of intent).
- Identify 2–4 funding opportunities annually aligned with research priorities.
- 2 complex proposals annually.
- Initiate or support at least 1 external partnership annually
- Support development and management of project budgets under guidance of senior staff.
- Allocate resources effectively across analytic tasks and project timelines.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to data quality, timelines, and deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, IRB requirements, and data governance standards.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive clinical data.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, analysts, educators, and external partners.
- Provide guidance to Research Associates on analytic tasks and data management.
- Contribute to a strong, methodologically rigorous, and collaborative research culture
- Masters degree with at least 5 years of research experience commensurate with other requirements. OR
- Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, health services research, health policy, implementation science, or related field
- Strong track record of hands\-on data analysis using large, complex datasets.
- Experience in applied research in healthcare settings, preferably primary care or safety\-net environments.
- Experience supporting or leading peer\-reviewed publications
- Advanced proficiency in statistical software (SAS, Stata, R, or equivalent).
- Experience with:
- Advanced proficiency in at least one: Python, R, or SAS
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior researchers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with FQHCs or safety\-net healthcare systems.
- Familiarity with implementation science or health services research.
- Experience with machine learning or natural language processing.
- Experience contributing to grant proposals
