Position Profile
Entry level position having primary responsibility for assisting the Director of Residence Life. Is responsible for coordinating the educational, student development, and administrative aspects of a residence hall. The emphasis of this position is on establishing and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to personal growth and academic achievement while working cooperatively in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff members. This is a 12\-month live\-in position.
Supervision Exercised
May lead professional staff of a lower grade, including resident assistants and/or support staff as assigned.
Position Responsibilities
- Enhances the development of students in all aspects of residential life through direct interaction and involvement.
- Plans, promotes, and implements residence hall initiatives that aid in the academic and personal success of Provides residential students with appropriate academic, vocational, personal, and social support.
- Works with campus partners to promote residential and campus\-wide events within the residential
- Renders assistance to students in a residence hall through counseling, advising, and referral.
- Oversees all residence hall programs and
- Selects, orients, trains, supervises, and evaluates all Residence Life student
- Investigates reports of misconduct and attempts to resolve or eliminate sources of conflict among students.
- Collaborates with the Office of Student Rights \& Responsibilities to uphold university rules and
- Maintains inventory of all furniture and equipment assigned to the residential area and immediately reports any missing or damaged equipment and works with student staff to maintain facilities in an orderly fashion.
- Responsible for monitoring and follow\-up on maintenance problems within the residence
- Provides operational supervision to the opening and closing of the residence hall at the beginning and end of each semester, academic year, and scheduled break periods.
- Serves as a liaison between the students, the Director of Residence Life, and other areas within the
- Advises the residence hall council and assists with monitoring the budget.
- Provides assistance to the Office of Residence Life as
- Prepares all required reports, records, and evaluations promptly and accurately as
- Represents the Office of Residence Life at campus wide functions including but not limited to Open House, Accepted Student Days, New and Transfer Student Orientations.
- Assists with the Summer Conference Program by ensuring the residence halls are prepared for conference move\-ins, being a liaison to conference organizer for customer service, managing conference group check\-ins/outs, and sees to appropriate staffing for the duration of each conference.
- Serves as a part of the professional staff on\-call duty rotation during the academic year and break
- Conducts walkthroughs of residence halls during break periods and notifies Facilities of maintenance concerns, follows up on the status of work orders submitted at the end of each semester.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of Student Affairs and Residence Life; knowledge of higher education programming and events as well as student development, counseling and support; knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws and regulations as well as university and CSCU policies and procedures; knowledge of and ability to apply best practices in Student Affairs; considerable ability to use appropriate equipment, computerized systems, platforms, and software; considerable interpersonal and presentation skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to collect, analyze and prepare data; considerable ability to prepare reports and other materials.
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of leading student employees; knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of student employee training, development, and assessment including performance evaluations; knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of employee coaching and mentoring; some knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
Work Environment
Required to live and work on campus in an assigned residence hall. Required to work evenings and weekends. May be required to work outdoors for programming and events.

Education:
All applicants must possess Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Experience and Training:
Two (2\) years of experience in the performance of college or university residence life and/or student affairs experience which equips the applicant to relate effectively to resident university students and staff.
An advanced degree in Counseling in Higher Education or Higher Education Administration may be substituted in lieu of experience.
Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.

Compensation and Employee Benefits
The Assistant to the Director / Residence Hall Director (12\- month live\-in position) is compensated at the Administrator II salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF) Collective Bargaining Union Agreement.
