  • The Department of Psychology Student Academic Affairs Office is currently seeking a Student Administrative Assistant to function as a member of a cross\-trained team providing undergraduate and graduate student services. This position is ideal for applicants who are interested in an entry\-level student services position that provides exposure to a variety of administrative topics within higher education. A person who excels in this role will be given the opportunity to work on special projects for the Student Academic Affairs Director and the Undergraduate Program Manager, and may be invited to take on additional responsibilities in the area of undergraduate advising.     Responsibilities\*

  • ----------------------
  • 50% Front desk and reception: Serve as the receptionist for the Department of Psychology Student Academic Affairs Office. Provide high quality customer service by responding to inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the public in a prompt and friendly manner by assessing their needs and providing correct information or referrals. Perform a full range of general office administrative work, including ordering office supplies. Coordinate student employee schedule and projects. Maintain all office common areas, including the front\-office, conference room, and storage areas. Serves on the Building Incident Response Team (BIRT) and helps communicate emergency procedures to the department.

    30% Student administration: Process student declarations of Psychology and BCN majors. Monitor waitlists and issue course overrides to students. Create semester course charts. Maintain a transfer credit database. Coordinate the course evaluation process, including working with instructors to order evaluations and compiling data for departmental use. Use MailChimp to create and distribute undergraduate newsletters several times each week. Collect, store, and maintain syllabi database. Upload graduate student documents. Update large awards database annually. Assist other staff with additional projects as required.

    10% Subject Pool and experiential learning: Provide back\-up support for the Introductory Psychology Subject Pool and experiential learning courses through answering emails, approving studies, maintaining Sona accounts, and transportation orientations; assist with course promotion to maintain enrollment; website updates; monitor usage of service learning vehicles.

    10% Event planning: Assist with the planning and preparation of departmental events, including space reservations, ordering food, and advertising. Events include graduation, ice cream socials, graduate student orientation, and more.

    Required Qualifications\*

  • High school diploma or associate's degree. Demonstrated customer service and administrative skills. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a high\-stress environment with periods of extremely heavy inquiry and visitor volume during the academic year. Sound judgment and initiative are critical. Must be able to set priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Must have valid driver's license \- will be required to drive university vehicles short distances (less than 5 miles) on occasion.

    Desired Qualifications\*

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology or a similar social science. Two or more years of experience working directly with students. Ability to adapt to an ambiguous and high pressure work environment that requires attention to detail, problem\-solving and decision\-making skills, and an excellent interpersonal manner. Proficient in standard computing software, including Microsoft Office, and able to adapt to specialized software. Familiarity with LS\&A, Rackham and University student administration procedures and policies. Experience with M\-Pathways and Business Objects Student Data modules.

  • Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

    Work Schedule

  • This position will work during office hours of 8 AM to 4:30 PM. As this is a front desk/reception position, it is expected that this person will work in person 4\-5 days a week, with the possibility for occasional remote work.

  • The salary range for this position is $37,000 to $46,300\. A higher salary may be possible for a well\-qualified applicant and in conjunction with equity within the Department of Psychology and LSA.
