The Statistical and Psychology Research Professional will provide subject matter expertise to the USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES), Aeromedical Operational and Clinical Psychology Branch (USAFSAM/FESP) in support of expanded consultation and research capabilities aimed at assessing, monitoring, training, and treating airmen across high\-risk, high\-demand career fields throughout their lifecycle. This role addresses aero medically relevant issues related to psychological functioning, operational health, and performance enhancement interventions affecting aircrew, intelligence, remotely piloted aircraft, cyberwarfare, special duty, and senior leadership positions within the United States Air Force. The position supports data collection, analysis, report writing, and management of research studies and outcome products — including military and academic presentations, journal articles, technical reports, and educational materials — pertaining to demographic, operational, and behavioral health variables related to adaptation and performance. Services encompass scientific research design, literature review, database management, statistical analysis, and presentation development, with coordination across USAFSAM/FESP aeromedical staff, 711th Human Performance Wing personnel, and supported MAJCOM/HQ staff as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development and execution of comprehensive study protocols, including hypothesis formation, methodologies, data collection strategies, and statistical analysis, in consultation with USAFSAM/FESP professional staff.
- Conducts relevant scientific literature reviews and data analyses, presenting findings to customer leadership and participating in related discussions with USAFSAM/FESP staff.
- Advises USAFSAM/FESP professional staff on optimal statistical approaches for analyzing study data.
- Performs descriptive and inferential statistical analyses as required.
- Maintains the validity and security of statistical products and online data repositories in accordance with IRB protocols and safeguards.
- Upholds confidentiality of screening data, technical reports, and sensitive findings not releasable to the general public.
- Completes all required IRB paperwork and training for conducting research.
- Prepares scientific and statistical reports in support of publication in the scientific literature, coordinating with USAFSAM/FESP and 711 HPW staff, number of professional presentations, reports, and papers is determined based on the relevance of research findings as they become available.
- Travels as needed to provide professional support, customer consultations, and research presentations at line leadership meetings and professional conferences.
- Maintains open communication with project personnel to facilitate teamwork while adhering to strict confidentiality and classification requirements across all forms of communication.
- Manages data coordination processes with project team members, including acquisition, input, maintenance, electronic formatting, and storage of all project data.
- Assists staff with collection, maintenance, and database entry of assessment data.
- Provides project operations support, including assistance with USAFSAM/FES research activities and data acquisition in support of project goals and objectives.
- Arranges, facilitates, and participates in research team meetings — including leading a weekly meeting — to ensure effective communication among team members and progress toward project research goals.
- Supports additional USAFSAM/FESP research investigations as needed in the event of unexpected interruptions in research capabilities or reductions in workload.
- Other duties as assigned
- Master’s degree specializing in Research Psychology, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or a related Psychology discipline.
- Doctoral degree specializing in Research Psychology, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or a related Psychology discipline Preferred OR
- Minimum seven (7\) years of relevant experience Preferred
- Minimum five (5\) years’ experience in database development, gathering and organizing data supporting analyses for a wide range of analytical procedures, research report writing, and developing actionable recommendations for improving human performance based on research.
- Minimum five (5\) years’ experience designing and conducting statistical data analysis using software such as JMP, SPSS, R, etc.
- Minimum five (5\) years’ experience with developing products presenting research outcomes (e.g., statistical results and interpretations), to include professional presentations, peer\-reviewed publications, and/or technical reports.
- Minimum five (5\) years’ experience engaged in administrative management with regard to study design, methodology, and dissemination of results regarding empirically based human performance research studies.
- Certification in administering psychological assessments (e.g., NEO, Hogan, EQ\-i) and providing individualized feedback Preferred
- Experience with human performance and behavioral science research within the Department of War (DoW) Preferred
- Experience developing and administering comprehensive, validated psychological instruments via mobile and web\-based capabilities Preferred
- Experience as an author of publications in peer\-reviewed journals or official USAF/DoW technical reports in behavioral science with regards to human performance and behavioral science research Preferred
- Travel is required.
