Position Summary
The Accounting Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the financial health and integrity of the National Humanities Center. Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager maintains accurate and complete accounting records, facilitates timely month\-end closes, and produces accurate financial reports. This position requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting function.
- Maintain the general ledger (Blackbaud Financial Edge) including data entry and review/approval of journal entries.
- Collaborate with departments (especially Development) to ensure accurate recording and accounting of all gifts, grants, and restrictions.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and review/approve weekly payable ACH batches.
- Review and approve bi\-monthly payroll and related journal entries.
- Monitor daily bank activity and ensure timely monthly reconciliation of the operating account.
- Ensure timely financial close\-out monthly and at fiscal year\-end.
- Produce timely financial reporting, including monthly departmental budget\-actual reports and quarterly GAAP\-consistent reports. Address inquiries and make necessary corrections.
- As needed, assist the CFO with the annual external audit and preparation of audited financial statements and footnotes.
- Promote an environment of continuous improvement by providing recommendations, improving systems and procedures, and initiating corrective actions.
- Supervise one (1\) Accounting Clerk, providing guidance and support.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
- 3\+ years of practical experience in nonprofit accounting operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit financial reporting
- Blackbaud experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

Benefits
This position includes a competitive salary range of $85,000 \- $95,000 and a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan; paid life insurance; and a generous PTO/holiday policy.
