Position Summary

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.

This position will serve as an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator within the School of Medicine – Division of Infectious Diseases. The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator assists with the execution of study protocols, including screening and recruiting study participants, conducting study visits, and collecting, entering, and reviewing study data. The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (Linkage and Retention Coordinator) will plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate specific components of the HRSA Ryan White grant funded activities in the Infectious Diseases clinic.

The range of duties includes but is not limited to: Linking persons recently diagnosed or living with HIV to clinical care and support services, completing assessments to determine risk for poor engagement, conducting interventions that promote retention in care, assisting patients in re\-engagement in care which may include facilitating transportation, scheduling, or referrals to supportive services. In addition to linkage and retention in clinical care, the coordinator will facilitate linkage to and retention in other grant funded benefits programs by assisting in completion of eligibility forms as needed for service or medication access. The Coordinator will document in the medical record, as well as track and report databases with high attention to detail.

The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator will also plan, design, and execute quality improvement projects related to funded activities as they interface with duties. The role includes project planning and design, developing methodology for tracking and reporting activities, database entry and management, data collection and analysis to support quality management efforts and reporting to grantee. Other responsibilities include auditing records, compliance monitoring, preparing publications, meeting preparation and facilitation, and staff and patient educational materials. Training of staff and students on programs and activities is expected.

The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator will work collaboratively with the ID clinic social work team, benefit coordinators, clinic providers, and internal project staff. External communication with the NC HIV state bridge counselors is involved. Work may include participation or leadership of the clinic advisory board and collection of patient input on the Ryan White Program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Management Preferences

  • Ability to work and communicate (written and verbally) with diverse populations effectively and professionally, including with the HIV community.
  • Ability to use EPIC or EHR/EMR to successfully coordinate projects, grants, and manage data.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
