In 1994, Rising Sun Center for Opportunity began as Rising Sun Energy Center in Santa Cruz, California. Much has changed as we’ve adapted and innovated to respond to the needs of our participants and communities, but today, we remain rooted in our origins, preparing people throughout the Bay Area and Central California who have been locked out of prosperity for good jobs and green pathways that offer economic equity and mobility while building a climate\-resilient future for all.

We are mission\-driven and work hard because we care about what we do. Rising Sun is hiring an Admin and Operations Assistant to support core general administrative and operational functions. The Admin and Operations Assistant reports directly to the Director of HR \& Admin and works closely with the HR \& Operations Associate and the Admin \& Operations Associate, though they will support multiple staff and will work closely with multiple departments.
A successful Admin and Operations Assistant…
- Is a quick learner and enjoys the challenge of learning new tasks and implementing new skills
- Is comfortable with asking questions for accurate clarification of assigned tasks
- Can juggle multiple tasks and is highly organized
- Has strong computer skills and experience using platforms like Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce; able to quickly learn new software and databases as needed
- Has an eye for detail and doesn’t mind data entry, filing, and other administrative tasks
- Likes to problem solve and troubleshoot
- Enjoys working with others, but is also happy to work alone
- Is willing to jump in where help is needed
- Support with a high volume of seasonal employees’ onboarding documents and payroll preparation
- Coordinate with cross departmental program teams to ensure smooth onboarding of seasonal staff
- Maintain record of compliance training completion
- Prepare seasonal employees’ enrollment in pay card program \- being the point person to support with Branch card issues
- Perform internal audits and organize necessary documentation to meet federal compliance and Rising Sun’s internal policies
- Support organizational culture initiatives as needed
- Creating systems to ensure organized folders in HRIS platform
- Create process for tracking document retrieval and organization (ex: driver’s license and insurance)
- Complete other tasks as assigned
- Have a car, valid driver’s license, and car insurance
- Be able to pass a motor vehicle record check with a safe driving record
- Be able to pass a criminal background check
- Be able to complete the virtual Mandated Reporter Training, Sexual Harassment Training, and Cyber Security training within your scheduled training week(s).
- Be able to meet in person for occasional meetings near or at our Oakland Office
- Experience working with Rippling or other HRIS systems
- Experience using Salesforce
- Familiarity with nonprofit compliance, especially with workforce development, youth development, and/or environment
- Familiarity with performing data entry and systems
- Experience working in environments with cross\-departmental teams
- Basic understanding of payroll practices and processes
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and climb ladders as part of ongoing inventory management, ability to be physically active
- Fluency in a second language (Spanish preferred)
- Position Schedule: May \- August, 2026\. specific dates to be determined in collaboration with hired candidate.
- Pay: $26\.00/hour, estimated 30 hours per week, hours per week may vary by agreement
- Rising Sun sponsors the optional use of a mental health platform, Spring Health, for the use of up to 6 coaching sessions, 6 therapy sessions, and on\-demand self\-guided resources at no expense for the duration of your employment with Rising Sun.
- Location: Hybrid, occasional in\-person at our Oakland HQ or Stockton office and site office visits across the Bay Area

This is a temporary, non\-exempt, non, benefited, part\-time, hourly, hybrid position.
Mileage reimbursements will only be offered for driving done solely for work\-related purposes. Note, that commuting between your home and office location does not qualify for reimbursement. Toll fees incurred as part of work travel are reimbursed.*
