Under general supervision with regular review, this position is responsible for maintenance of local area, world wide and virtual private networks (VPN), support of planning, evaluation and coordination of installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communications network. May contribute to resolution of moderately complex problems with hardware and software of the data communications network. May install or administer systems or services to provide network security and/or help ensure optimum network availability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors network usage and capacity for in\-house systems.
  • May participate in the evaluation of new communications technology to enhance the capabilities of the data network.
  • Monitors communications requirements to ensure current and future data needs are met.
  • Participates in maintaining appropriate network documentation, including operational instructions.
  • May be the technical contact for supplier and vendors.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or as required.

    Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field along with two or more years progressive experience in computer and/or network support with a Bachelors degree. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of data network principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Must be able to organize, schedule, coordinate and perform work assignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.
  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new processes and resolve technical matters.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
  • Must be customer focused and possess:

+ The ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of problems.

+ Analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings.

+ The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. To include the ability to initiate, plan, and manage projects.

+ Excellent computer skills.

+ Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential.
