Assistant Controller

Job Purpose
The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller in overseeing the accounting operations for Holiday Oil and other related companies. This role performs advanced accounting functions, helps ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, supports compliance and internal controls, and provides leadership to accounting personnel in daily operations. The Assistant Controller assists in analyzing financial data, improving processes, and communicating financial information to management to support business decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with and helps oversees the month\-end close process for multiple entities
- Ensures compliance and current licensing for stores
- Oversees monthly bank reconciliations
- Reviews monthly expenses and general ledger coding for accuracy
- Prepares and reviews accruals for property taxes and other required items
- Oversees loyalty program expenses and related accruals
- Learns, understands, and interprets all accounting systems and processes, including the company's accounting system
- Manages company state/county/city licensing
- Assists with oversight of the fuel reconciliation process
- Prepares and reviews general ledger entries by maintaining records and files
- Prepares and reconciles key balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Prepares and reviews monthly financial reports
- Supports the Controller with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Calculates and pays monthly sales and fuel taxes
- Oversees accounts payable activity for key accounts and reconciles monthly statements
- Manages insurance delivery process and risk management metrics
- Provides guidance and support to accounting staff and assists with department training and development
- Assists with audits and the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related business field
- 5\+ years' experience on accounting, finance, of related roles
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement
- Ability to learn accounting software GP Dynamics
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, debits, and credits
- Team player with ability to work across departments
- Strong problem\-solving and analytical skills
