Job Summary

We are a busy insurance restoration contractor performing 300 mitigation and build back assignments per year. We are looking for an ongoing consultant to implement and oversee a bookkeeping process that provides us with real insight into our P\&L on a per job basis. You will analyze underperforming job identify root causes of loss vs estimate and seek to resolve the issue. We are looking for the type of person that can fix the problem not just tell us there is a problem. Ideally you have deep similar prior work experience with a ServePro, Service Master or similar industry competitor.

We are seeking a dynamic and detail\-oriented Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our accounting processes. The Controller will oversee all aspects of financial management, including regulatory compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role is vital in driving accurate financial analysis, maintaining compliance with industry standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and supporting strategic decision\-making. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to managing complex accounting functions within a nonprofit or governmental environment, ensuring transparency and accountability at every level.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full spectrum of accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing using software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Lead the preparation of detailed financial reports, including statements, budgets, forecasts, and regulatory filings in compliance with GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls aligned with SOX (Sarbanes\-Oxley Act) requirements to safeguard assets and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough account analysis and account reconciliation activities to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Supervise cash management activities, ensuring optimal liquidity levels for operational needs while maintaining compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial statements.
  • Support technical accounting initiatives related to nonprofit or governmental accounting standards as applicable.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes by leveraging accounting software such as Xero or Sage for automation and efficiency gains.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities to support organizational growth and stability.
  • Requirements

  • Proven experience in accounting roles with a strong background in corporate or nonprofit accounting environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, account reconciliation, balance sheet management, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with financial management tools is essential.
  • Strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles and technical accounting concepts.
  • Ability to perform detailed account analysis and prepare comprehensive financial reports with clarity and precision.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills for collaboration across departments and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory. Join us as our Controller to lead our financial operations with energy and precision!
