About the Role

We are seeking a Data Processing Clerk – Quality Control to perform data processing and quality control support the Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE) within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) by entering, coding, validating, and correcting occupational health and surveillance data using government\-provided instructions, established classification standards, and NIOSH systems (including NIOCCS). This position performs first\-level and administrative/final\-level quality checks to ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

This is a hybrid remote position based in Cincinnati, Ohio that will require onsite work at the customer’s location at least 3 days per week. Telework must be approved by customer. Must be available between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Enter occupational health and exposure study data according to project\-specific da\-ta entry/coding guides.
  • Review and interpret source documents that may include PDF files or microform copies of hardcopy records (e.g., employment records, surveys completed by hand) to ensure accurate data capture.
  • Enter data into custom data entry applications such as Microsoft Access\- in the NIOSH Industry and Occupation Computerized Coding System (NIOCCS).
  • Validate and correct study and surveillance data using edit reports; apply corrective actions as directed by project instructions and/or the government project lead.
  • Apply national classification standards to assign codes, including Census/NAICS/SOC industry and occupation codes and Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Statistics’ Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS) cause\-of\-injury/illness codes for workers’ compensation claims, as required by the project.
  • Provide administrative/final\-level quality control checks for industry and occupation codes by reviewing coded files and updating codes based on established coding rules.
  • Support records management and technical documentation activities, including maintaining paper/electronic records and ensuring required documentation is accurate, complete, easily accessible in a usable format, and compliant with applicable regulations and policies and Agency\- specific rules and procedures.
  • Participate in NIOSH\-led training and meetings as required.
  • Assist with team lead duties when needed.
  • Requirements:

    Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in occupational/industry coding and/or data quality review or other relevant experience in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to accurately follow government\-provided instructions and pre\-established guidelines to enter, validate, and correct data
  • Experience performing quality control checks and interpreting narrative text and supporting documentation and translating information into appropriate classification codes; working knowledge of (or ability to learn) Census, NAICS, SOC, and OIICS standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain productivity, accuracy, and focus for extended periods while meeting quality requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).
  • Must be proficient in touch\-typing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government clearance and customer approval.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Education

  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Candidates must currently reside in or within daily commuting distance of Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • Must be able to work onsite at least 3 days per week. Telework must be approved by customer. Must be available between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Pay Range

The projected pay range for this position is $19\.27\-$20\.93 per hour. Please note that the pay information listed is a good faith estimate for this position and a general guideline only. Multiple factors are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications, and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
