The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an Office Assistant to work at the Vandalia Correctional Center. This position is responsible for processing and inspecting all incoming/outgoing mail, keyboarding a variety of correspondence, reports, and documents as well as maintaining records of postage used.   • Processes and inspects all incoming/outgoing individual in custody or staff mail.
  • Keyboards a variety of material including correspondence, reports, and other documents that are handwritten or from recorded dictation.
  • Receives mail and packages from delivery services, i.e. United Parcel Services, FedEx.
  • Keyboards a variety of difficult material including records, reports, correspondence, and other documents requiring an understanding of terminology which includes both commonly used and specialized words which can be readily checked in available references or are typically previously encountered.
  • Reviews Global Telecommunications Leader (GTL) messages daily.
  • Maintains records of postage usage.
  • Receives and screens Mailroom calls and answers inquiries regarding Mailroom Office operations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at thirty\-five (35\) words per minute.
  • Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404\.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
