Application Integration Engineer

Must be eligible for a Federal Security Clearance (US Citizen) 100% remote Application Integration Engineer Position Summary The Application Integration Engineer will be responsible for the administration, integration, optimization, and technical ownership of key enterprise applications used across the American Science Cloud suite of tools. This role will support platforms such as GitLab, Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Zoom, Slack, Bitwarden, and other business and collaboration applications. The Application Integration Engineer will focus on connecting these platforms into streamlined, automated workflows that improve the end\-user experience and reduce manual processes. This position will also identify and implement opportunities to integrate agentic AI, automation, APIs, and other emerging technologies into supported applications and workflows. This role will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for supported applications and their integrations, providing technical guidance to project leadership, application support personnel, engineering teams, administrators, and end users. Key Responsibilities Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for supported enterprise applications, including GitLab, Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Zoom, Slack, Bitwarden, and related collaboration tools. Administer, configure, maintain, and support supported applications throughout their operational lifecycle. Design and implement integrations between enterprise applications to create streamlined workflows and improve the end\-user experience. Develop automated workflows that reduce repetitive tasks, manual data entry, duplicate processes, and unnecessary transitions between applications. Integrate applications through APIs, webhooks, plugins, identity providers, automation platforms, and other available integration mechanisms. Evaluate existing application workflows and identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, or automate business and technical processes. Design and implement agentic AI capabilities within supported applications and workflows, including AI\-assisted automation, information retrieval, task execution, knowledge access, and workflow orchestration. Identify appropriate opportunities for the use of AI agents while ensuring integrations align with project security, access\-control, data\-handling, and operational requirements. Develop integrations that allow AI\-enabled systems to securely interact with supported enterprise applications, APIs, knowledge sources, and project services. Work with project stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements and translate those requirements into effective application configurations and integrations. Troubleshoot complex issues involving application configuration, APIs, authentication, identity systems, permissions, integrations, automation, and application dependencies. Review logs, API responses, application behavior, access controls, and integration workflows to identify and resolve technical issues. Support application onboarding, upgrades, configuration changes, release validation, and operational testing. Develop and maintain technical documentation for application configurations, integrations, APIs, automated workflows, and AI\-enabled capabilities. Create architecture diagrams, integration documentation, administrative procedures, runbooks, and knowledge articles for supported platforms. Establish and maintain standards and best practices for application administration and integration across the project. Coordinate with application vendors, engineering teams, security teams, platform teams, and other technical stakeholders when implementing or troubleshooting integrations. Provide technical guidance and escalation support to application support personnel when issues require deeper application or integration expertise. Evaluate new applications, plugins, APIs, AI capabilities, and integration technologies for potential use within the project. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across the project's application ecosystem. Required Qualifications Experience in application integration, application administration, systems engineering, platform engineering, technical operations, or a similar role. Strong Experience with Gitlab administration, Jira administration, and managing permissions of multiple groups and users. Strong understanding of application integration concepts, including APIs, REST services, webhooks, authentication, authorization, and data exchange. Experience integrating multiple applications into automated or interconnected workflows. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, particularly across application configurations, permissions, APIs, identity systems, and integrations. General understanding of identity and access management concepts, including Single Sign\-On (SSO), SAML, OAuth/OIDC, role\-based access control, and user provisioning. Experience developing or maintaining technical documentation, administrative procedures, integration diagrams, and operational runbooks. Ability to communicate technical concepts and integration requirements clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Ability to independently research application capabilities, APIs, and integration options and translate them into practical solutions. Understanding of security principles related to application integrations, credentials, service accounts, API tokens, permissions, and data access. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and 2\+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Hands\-on experience administering or integrating platforms such as GitLab, Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Zoom, Slack, and Bitwarden. Experience with Atlassian administration, including Jira and Confluence configuration, automation, workflows, permissions, and integrations. Experience with GitLab administration, integrations, CI/CD workflows, APIs, or repository\-management processes. Experience integrating enterprise applications with identity providers and centralized authentication systems. Experience with agentic AI systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI assistants, AI workflow automation, tool calling, or Model Context Protocol (MCP). Familiarity with Retrieval\-Augmented Generation (RAG), enterprise knowledge bases, semantic search, or other methods of providing organizational context to AI systems. Experience developing automation or integrations using Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar scripting languages. Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, SDKs, and API\-testing tools. Familiarity with workflow\-automation and integration platforms. Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms. Familiarity with DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or software\-development workflows. * Experience working alongside application support, engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, platform, or SRE teams.
