Summary of the Position This position will provide comprehensive administrative support to our attorneys. This role is vital in supporting legal representation for youth in Nebraska's juvenile court system who are facing education\-related issues. The Legal Assistant will assist the legal team by maintaining legal files, supporting court preparation, aiding in case management, and ensuring timely communication with clients, courts, schools, and community partners. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail\-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Job Duties Include Juvenile Case Management Open, maintain, and close juvenile legal case files in ERC's case management system. Track case progress and ensure files remain organized and complete throughout representation. Collect, organize, and maintain collateral documents, including educational, medical, mental health, and juvenile justice records. Prepare, send, and track Releases of Information (ROIs). Request, receive, and organize educational records and other case\-related documentation. Maintain accurate case documentation and electronic records. Prepare and maintain data reports for case team. Attorney Support Manage attorney calendars, including court hearings, meetings, filing deadlines, and appointments. Coordinate juvenile court calendars and monitor important litigation deadlines. Draft, prepare, proofread, and file routine legal documents, including motions and supporting pleadings. Prepare case materials and exhibits for hearings, meetings, and court appearances. Assist attorneys with trial and hearing preparation. Coordinate communication for attorneys with case professionals and other interested parties. Answer incoming calls and refer client inquiries professionally and compassionately to assigned attorney. Billing \& Administrative Support Assist attorneys with billing documentation and time entry support. Maintain accurate administrative records and case data. Ensure compliance with organizational policies regarding confidentiality and record retention. Outreach \& Community Engagement Support ERC's juvenile outreach initiatives through coordination of trainings, presentations, and community events. Assist with communication and relationship\-building efforts with juvenile justice stakeholders and community organizations. Represent ERC professionally during outreach activities as assigned. Special Projects Assist with legal, operational, and organizational projects as assigned. Participate in organizational initiatives and events. Perform other duties necessary to support ERC's mission and legal services. Qualifications Required Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience. Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast\-paced environment. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Strong customer service and client engagement skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to learn and effectively utilize legal case management software. Preferred Bachelor's degree. Experience working in a legal office, juvenile justice, child welfare, CASA or court experience. Experience supporting litigation or juvenile court proceedings. Familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and document preparation. Experience requesting and organizing educational or juvenile court records. Physical Requirements Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift and carry files or office materials up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel locally for meetings or court\-related activities as needed.
