This Recreation Site Technician position is located at the Montana Fish, Wildlife \& Parks office in Great Falls, Montana. Great Falls offers an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities, with an extensive trail system for hiking and biking, water recreation, hunting and fishing, and opportunities to learn and experience the fascinating history of Central Montana. Great Falls is a haven of rich arts, culture and history and is centrally located to provide ample outdoor opportunities, entertainment, health care and shopping. home to 60,000 residents, Great Falls is the third largest city in Montana. This is a seasonal worker position with an anticipated season lasting from mid June through early September. The work schedule for this position will generally be from 8am\-4:30pm Wednesday through Sunday, but hours may be flexible. Weekend, evening and holiday work is required, as these are the peak times for outdoor recreation use. The incumbent will work primarily at Giant Springs State Park, the busiest state park in Montana. Job Duties: The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations of outdoor recreation sites across Central Montana. This work will include completing administrative tasks, providing customer service to visitors, resolving conflicts, advising visitors of rules and regulations, collecting fees from recreation sites, monitoring natural resource or infrastructure impacts to recreation sites, completing minor maintenance/janitorial task, and working both independently and as a team to improve the parks and recreation sites and public experience. The incumbent frequently engages in tasks such as providing information to the public, collecting fees, resolving conflicts, interpreting FWP rules and regulations, maintaining site conditions, and working closely with other staff such as Game Wardens, Biologists, and other Parks and Outdoor Recreation staff to meet shared goals. The incumbent will patrol recreation sites, predominantly by vehicle, but sometimes by foot (recreation trails), bike, and UTV to ensure rule compliance through information/education, and when necessary, assist law enforcement staff with incidents. The incumbent will monitor the sites for hazards and take corrective actions or notify supervisors. They will be assigned minor maintenance and janitorial tasks such as cleaning picnic/day use areas, maintaining vault toilets, collecting trash, general landscaping, and trail work. They will prepare recommendations for recreation site improvement to improve the visitor experience. As part of the on\-barding process, Montana Fish, Wildlife \& Parks uniforms will be issued, and the incumbent will be expected to present the State of Montana in a positive and professional manner while in the field to ensure the public is able to safely enjoy their outdoor recreation experience at FWP parks and recreation sites. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): Graduation from high school or equivalent education. One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management, interpretive visitor center, or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required at time of application: General knowledge of basic customer service and safe work habits. Ability to: educate and inform visitors on compliance with rules and regulations and State laws; collect fees and make changes; sell merchandise and account for monies collected; read, maintain, and prepare records and reports; and assist visitors in emergency situations. Daily interaction with site visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.
