THE DISTRICT COURT The Second Judicial District Court covers all communities within Washoe County and is part of the judicial branch of government. The District Court occupies two courthouses located in downtown Reno. The General Jurisdiction’s historic courthouse proudly displays a copper dome lined with magnificent stained glass. The Family Division is located in a multi\- court complex. Its footprint lines the banks of the Truckee River. The Second Judicial District Court is a collaborative partner within Washoe County. POSITION DESCRIPTION This irregularly scheduled position monitors visits of families that are court ordered to participate in supervised visitation at the Family Peace Center. The Family Peace Center is located at 350 S. Center Street and is a program of the Family Services Department of the Second Judicial District Court, supervised by the Family Services Program Manager. This position exercises no direct supervision over other employees. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Explain and enforce program rules and policies as well as behavioral expectations during visitation. Verify check\-in procedures for program participants. Report non\-compliance issues to the Family Peace Center Coordinator. Monitor visitation and exchanges between children and parents and/or other relatives at the center. Observe and prepare objective, factual and complete visitation reports. Remain neutral and maintain independence from participants. Exercise judgment to intervene. Identify high\-risk and emergency situations. Make referrals to appropriate agency staff when neglect or abuse is suspected. Practice verbal interventions and de\-escalation techniques to mitigate potentially hostile behaviors. Maintain calm demeanor and utilize sound judgment in addressing potentially hostile situations. Participate in training on supportive supervision practices. Ensure that procedures for record keeping and confidentiality, risk assessment and intake are rigorously followed. Perform a variety of case management support functions including but not limited to data entry, filing, answering incoming phone calls and compiling data. Be available for flexible scheduling. OTHER JOB\-RELATED DUTIES Performs related duties as assigned. JOB\-RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: · Principles and practices for supervised visitation and supervised exchanges. · Court rules and procedures for families utilizing the Family Peace Center. · Principles and practices used in effectively dealing with the public. · Local community resources. Ability to: · Interpret, explain, apply, and ensure compliance with the rules and policies pertaining to the Family Peace Center. · Respond to requests and inquiries from the public and Court personnel regarding rules and policies. · Implement work methods and procedures that promote a safe working environment for participants and colleagues. · Deal effectively with conflict and bring about effective resolution to problems. · Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions. · Write reports in a clear, concise, factual and neutral manner. · Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds. · Exercise sound judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs. · Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. · Maintain professional and effective working relationships with others. · Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Skills to: · Listen attentively. · Intervene and redirect inappropriate or challenging conversations. · Intervene when safety concerns arise. · Work collaboratively in a team environment. · Proficiently use office equipment and Office 365 Software, including computers, telephones, copiers, Word and Outlook. · Operate virtual meeting platforms, such as Zoom. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Availability to work evening and weekend hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training High School Diploma. One year of experience performing a variety of duties in support of a social or human services function. Preferred Additional Education/Training Bachelor’s degree or equivalent coursework in a human services discipline, social work, home economics, child development, criminal justice or related social or behavioral field (may substitute for the required experience).
