- Researching policies and best practices regarding city governance and financial management.
- Assisting with updates to the: Finance Policies \& Procedures and updates to current processes in preparation for implementation of a new financial software.
- Processing accounting/financial information for the organization, including coordinating various billing processes; collecting and coding revenues; prepares and adjusts journal entries; assists in year\-end functions related to accounting/financial operations; analyzes reports; creates, maintains and/or updates computer database information, related spreadsheets charts, and graphs using Microsoft Excel.
- Assisting with drafting and edits city council staff reports, policies and training materials.
- Research, analyze, compile and summarize financial and non\-financial information.
- Other duties as required and related to internal services provided by the Finance \& Technology Services Department, including general accounting, revenue management, and information technology.

- Eligibility to remain in the program is contingent upon school enrollment.
- Students who are interested in a six\-month commitment or longer are required.
- Students must be able to work approximately 20 hours per week during normal business hours.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, practical accounting experience that will prepare you to work in local government and provide you with invaluable insights into the operations of a city government finance department. The Finance Intern will directly assist the Department of Finance and Technology Services with a wide range of projects and responsibilities related to local government finance.
The internship provides cross\-functional exposure to city governance across the department’s various divisions and allows you to put your education to use in a professional setting. Supporting the finance team to implement best practices and efficeint worflows in the new enterprise resource planning (ERP), tasks related to current state/future state workflows including preparing accounting invoices, processing accounts payable, cash receipts/revenue collection, payroll, and purchasing. Additionally, you will gain experience with data analysis for enterprise resource planning (ERP), creating and scrubbing through Excel spreadsheets, preparing periodic reports, updating financial reports. and general administrative support such as scheduling and tracking tasks. The successful Intern will be flexible, is a self\-starter yet is comfortable seeking guidance, is able to meet deadlines, determine project priorities, able to take direction while working independently, and provides great customer service to multiple levels of the organization. Experience using computer programs and financial software such as Excel, Word and Acrobat is essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Applicants must be currently enrolledand/or pursuing a graduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development or Leadership, OR have junior or senior status pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Economics, or a closely related field.

This position is not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City except those mandated by federal or state law.
The City complies with California Labor Code 245\-249 by providing paid sick leave for part\-time hourly employees at the rate of one (1\) hour for every 30 hours worked. The maximum accrual is 40 hours.
