Construction Management Department utilizes contractor resources to construct overhead and underground Distribution and Transmission projects. The Construction Management Field Engineering group supports the coordination and execution of this work. The Construction Management Field Engineer will be headquartered in a specific location but can be deployed when needed to accommodate the coordination of priority work throughout the PG\&E system. The crews and field engineers are sometimes deployed to where the work is located throughout the PG\&E system.

An Electric Field Engineer contributes technical and engineering services for Construction Management, contractors, and field personnel on construction jobs. During initial assignments, the Field Engineer may be required to learn and perform all the duties of a Field Engineering Technician and Senior Field Engineering Technician. With experience, assignments will expand to require supervision of Foreman, other Field Engineers, Field Engineering Technicians, Senior Field Engineering Technicians, and other similar field personnel. This position will work in both field and office capacities, with occasional storm duty and storm response required. Travel within PG\&E’s service territory at any time with little notice may be required. An essential function of this role will be to complete electric pre\-construction evaluations to ensure constructability at work sites. This will include performing field construction assessments, and coordination with other utilities, and departments. SAP tracking, scheduling and project review to ensure compliance with construction standards and practices. Manage plan to actual charging and project scope milestones.
This position will work in both the field and office capacities, with occasional storm duty or storm response required. Travel of approximately 50\-75% within PG\&E’s service territory at any time, with little notice, may be required.
PG\&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $51\.15 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
Job Responsibilities
Recommend and approve changes in construction drawings or specifications
Coordinate field engineering work between Contractors, Divisions and General Construction
Solve simple and complex engineering problems
Layout construction plans
May be required to perform duties as an assistant supervisor when size of project requires
Direct the activities of employees or crews on job assignments requiring construction engineering expertise
Audit work under construction for current construction standards, rules, and regulations
Develop Project timelines and milestones; perform scheduling and forecasting.
Support construction supervisor and foreman by providing technical and engineering expertise in the construction of the project
Inspects and monitors the work of contractors to assure compliance with specifications and plans
Supervises foreman, other field engineers, field engineering technicians, senior field engineering technicians and other similar field personnel
Work with the project management team to evaluate scope and execute work on time and within budget
Verify and order materials to contractor yards through SAP
Review and audit contractor invoices for accuracy and payment
Track status of projects through Unifier
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction management; OR 2 years experience and supplemental education\*/EIT
Must possess a valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by first day of employment
Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)
Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarter upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG\&E service territory with no guarantees as to how long you will be away from home
Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Fire\-Retardant Clothing
- Supplemental education is defined as completing a minimum of 30 quarter or 20 semester units of coursework from an accredited college emphasizing science and engineering such as those listed with a mix of no less than three areas (transcripts required for verification): Physics, Principles of Electricity, Chemistry, Statics, Surveying, Dynamics, Math (including trigonometry and basic calculus); an EIT certificate satisfies supplemental education
Desired:
Construction or surveying experience
Previous experience with SAP, scheduling, Electric Construction Field Experience
Ability to demonstrate intermediate Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and Office skills
6 months of previous electric construction background
Experience in electric clearance submittals to Distribution Operations
Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate
AutoCAD or hand draft skills, preferably both
Ability to demonstrate strong math and computer skills, strong written and verbal communication and an attention to detail
