Job Summary
I am seeking a dynamic and detail\-oriented Legal Assistant to assist me in litigation and transactional civil legal practice. In this role, you will provide essential support to me in handling complex litigation cases across various practice areas, including real estate transactions and litigation, commercial contract and business disputes, commercial collections, employment law, estate litigation, environmental law, and more. Always exciting and plenty of variety. NO criminal, family law, workers comp. or bankruptcy cases. Must be tech\-savvy and comfortable working with online aids, AI, Internet, Office 365, efiling, Cloud storage, PDF discovery (Acrobat Pro), and other online tools. Legal research skills a plus but not mandatory. Capable of ensuring the accuracy of legal documents and correspondence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to further develop your legal expertise while contributing to a small firm with a relaxed environment. While this is presently and predominantly a remote position, there may be onsite work from time\-to\-time for trial preparation etc...
Responsibilities
- Manage and organize case files using document management systems; ensure all documents are properly filed and easily accessible (Primarily online).
- Draft, proofread, and review legal documents including pleadings, contracts, correspondence, and discovery materials with precision and attention to detail.
- Support litigation activities by reviewing documents for relevance and accuracy; prepare summaries and reports for attorney review. Comfortable with the use of AI for completion of these tasks when appropriate.
- Conduct client interviews and gather pertinent information related to various matters. Client intake via telephone.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, courts, vendors, and attorney via phone etiquette, email, etc.. and professional correspondence.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, scheduling appointments, and managing deadlines to ensure smooth workflow.
- Strong knowledge of various legal practice areas previously listed.
- Proficiency in legal case management and experience with document review and drafting.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
- Effective writing skills for drafting legal documents; keen proofreading and transcription abilities.
- Paralegal experience or prior legal administrative experience preferred; strong clerical skills including filing and record keeping.
- You must have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently without constant supervision. I am hands on, but don't want or need to micromanage. I am looking for someone who will complete tasks and give me reasonable value. I believe I am fairly easy to work with, and am more than happy to assist or give input on tasks you are not fully comfortable with. I am also willing to train on some of the technical tasks.
