Located in Doylestown, in the heart of Bucks County, PA, the Mercer Museum \& Fonthill Castle, operated by the Bucks County Historical Society (BCHS), are two historic concrete castles that celebrate the life and legacy of Henry Chapman Mercer (1856\-1930\), American archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramicist and scholar.

The Mercer Museum, one of Bucks County’s premier cultural attractions and a Smithsonian affiliate, features both local and national seasonal exhibits as well as a collection of over 17,000 pre\-Industrial tools. This permanent collection offers visitors a unique window into pre\-Industrial America and is one of the world’s most comprehensive portraits of American material culture.

Fonthill Castle was home to Henry Chapman Mercer and served as a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints. Fonthill Castle features Mercer’s renowned, handcrafted ceramic tiles designed at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement.

The part\-time Accounting Assistant supports the Business Office by performing a variety of accounting, clerical, and administrative tasks. This role is responsible for handling daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with key accounting processes including accounts payable, daily deposits, payroll support, and month\-end activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cash deposits and ensure timely daily bank deposits
  • Perform accurate data entry of deposit transactions into the accounting system
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice verification, coding, and payment preparation
  • Post daily cash transmittals from the development office
  • Reconcile credit card transactions and post to the accounting system
  • Prepare and post journal entries into the accounting system
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash accounts
  • Order and maintain office and accounting supplies
  • Process and distribute incoming daily mail
  • Assist with month\-end closing procedures, including reconciliations and reporting
  • Support preparation for the annual budget and annual audit
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing using ADP
  • Assist Director with Human Resources tasks
  • Qualifications Summary

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
  • Experience with accounts payable and general ledger functions
  • Familiarity with ADP or other payroll systems is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Position Details

  • This is a part\-time hourly non\-exempt position and reports to the Director of Finance
  • Fifteen hours (15\) hours per week
  • Must work on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Hourly rate: $18 \- $20
  • This is an on\-site, in\-office position at Mercer Museum in Doylestown
