Scope: The Executive Director (ED) works closely with the Board of Directors on strategic and governance issues. The ED is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission, oversight of fundraising activities, and financial objectives. The ED oversees and manages day\-to\-day operations for the organization. The ED also works closely with allied organizations, kidney healthcare professionals in academic and professional settings, key stakeholders, and children and families affected by kidney disease.

NW Kidney Kids (NWKK) brings joy, hope, and connection to children with kidney disease and their families through camps, supportive programs, and lifelong learning. We strive to empower every child with kidney disease and their families to manage their health, embrace their future, and grow in a caring, supportive community. We are seeking a compassionate and strategic Executive Director to lead our organization, expand our reach, and deepen our impact on kidney\-affected youth and families.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive of NW Kidney Kids and is responsible for the overall strategic, financial, and operational management of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED will lead a small team,, and secure the funding needed to sustain and grow our programs. The ideal candidate is an experienced nonprofit leader with a deep commitment to the mission and values of NW Kidney Kids. This is currently a part\-time position but has the ability to grow to full time as budget allows.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership and Vision:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that supports NW Kidney Kids’ mission and drives organizational growth and sustainability.
  • Lead and inspire staff, board members, and volunteers to work collaboratively toward shared goals.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for NW Kidney Kids, enhancing the organization’s public profile and visibility in the community.
  • Fundraising and Financial Management:

  • Develop, execute and track a comprehensive fundraising plan, including individual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners to secure ongoing financial support.
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including the research, writing, and reporting of private grants with the support of our Grant Committee.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and staff to prepare and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial transparency and sustainability.
  • Board and Staff Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to support governance,, and engage the board in fundraising and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a small dedicated staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Currently we have a .8 FTE Marketing \& Events Manager, and seasonal, part time Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board on organizational performance, financial health, and strategic priorities.
  • Community Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Build partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and advocate for the needs of kidney\-affected youth.
  • Represent NW Kidney Kids at public events, community meetings, and in the media to promote the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Engage with families and program participants to ensure their voices and needs are central to program design and delivery.
  • Program Management

  • Oversee NWKK’s annual special events and camp programs in collaboration with staff to ensure alignment with the strategic plan, effective resource use, and strong return on investment.
  • Working with the Events and Marketing Manager responsible for ensuring regular and ongoing communication with the NWKK community, typically in the form of a quarterly newsletter and social media and constituent groups.
