Duties Description The Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatrics) will coordinate, direct, and provide professional nursing care to residents of the nursing home under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing/Director of Nursing. The incumbent will assess the quality of resident care and determine daily staffing, equipment, supplies and make adjustments necessary to meet the needs of the residents. The Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatrics) will assist the Director of Nursing in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with federal and state codes, rules and regulations. This position will assist in the preparation of Nursing Department budgets, and analyses of reports concerning expenditures as it relates to staff, supplies and equipment. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Inservice Education Coordinator and CQI/ICF Nurse in the daily supervision, monitoring, and management of resident care. The Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatrics) will review the 24\-hour reports on a daily basis in order to identify resident concerns and needs. They will also review and investigate complaints and grievances made by nursing department personnel, resident and family. The Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatric) will assist in the recruitment and retention of nursing personnel. They will facilitate effective communication among nursing personnel on a 24\-hour basis, while providing leadership to Nurse Managers for the purpose of assisting them in professional growth and development.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Veterans Home at Montrose employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatric). Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent\-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 18 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70\.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse 2 (Geriatric). Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post\-licensure clinical nursing experience working with a geriatric population.Substitution: A bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post\-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post\-licensure clinical nursing experience.Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience with geriatric population.
